FERAL SCIENCE, CHAPTER 2
By Kitsune
She ran through the forest, sharp branches and twigs scratched her legs to bits, but she didn't care. She just kept
on running, until her legs almost gave out from fatigue. All that mattered was that she get away, as fast as possible.
Eventually she collapsed under a large pine tree and lay there panting, trying to catch her breath and get over her
shock. That last attack she pulled was the only way she could think of to make a clear getaway. She was furious at
herself for running away like that, but couldn't deny that she had been scared out of her wits and still felt the urge to put
as much distance between him and herself as possible. On any other occasion she would've fought to the death, but
this was different. That guy was so much different from the others she had fought. He was a heck of a lot stronger
than the others were for one thing, and-- A strand of blue hair weaseled its way loose from her ponytail and flopped in
front of her eye. She flicked it out of the way. That guy was different from others, but he looked so much like... he even
had...No, no think of things! She thought desperately to herself, That only make worse for you.
But that didn't matter now, she told herself. She just had to get away, she would never see him again, she could
get on with her life, and she wouldn't be confused like this anymore, because he'd be gone. She'd be happy.
Now there was the matter of getting something to eat...Piccolo was confused. He had been trying to meditate for the last half-hour, but couldn't concentrate. He had
almost fallen into the lake twice already. His mind kept straying back to that weird blue-haired runt that had attacked
him earlier. She obviously wasn't human, or at least all human. No humans he knew had pointy ears and fangs.
There were still a few things that were bugging him, he just couldn't put his finger on it and it was annoying the heck
out of him. Okay Piccolo, he thought to himself, Relax. You're trying to meditate here, not drive yourself nuts But if
she's not human, what is she?! Here he almost slapped himself on the forehead.
Baka!! You're doing it again! You're never going to get any training done if you keep going like this!! After several failed attempts at relaxing, he gave up and floated over to the mainland, leaning back against a tree. Okay. He'd think about
that runt for a while just to get it out of his system, then he'd get back to meditating.
After a few minutes, he managed to pinpoint one of the things that had been bugging him; it was something about that
last attack she did before she ran off. It had looked pretty big, but it wasn't, really. All it seemed to do was scatter dust
around. Not much ki could've gone into that atta--
His head jerked up in surprise. That was what had seemed wrong, he hadn't sensed her ki!! Not once during that
whole entire fight!!! Had she been blocking it the whole time? No, she couldn't have been, she fired that big ki thingy at
him at the end and she was fighting like mad the whole time.
Wait a minute... if he couldn't sense her ki, did that mean she was an android or something? No, she seemed
human enough...Argh!! What was he talking about?! He'd just spent the last ten minutes debating with himself over
whether she was human or not!!! As he thought this thing over in his head, something else occurred to him. Whatever
she yelled before she fired that thing wasn't human. It was...
Namekian?!The girl crouched in the bush, silent and watching. A small rabbit sniffed the air suspiciously. Dinner. She slowly
withdrew her stick from its case and silently crept forwards towards her future meal, but stepped on a twig in the process. The rabbit's eyes bugged out and it bolted away. The girl cursed silently to herself for her carelessness, and chased after
her dinner. She crashed through the forest, completely intent on catching her meal. She was hungry. The rabbit
charged through the bushes as fast as it could, with her just behind. The girl was so intent on catching her meal that
she hardly noticed that it was running up a hill towards a steep, very rocky cliff. All of a sudden, the rabbit dashed down
the other side, not losing its footing at all. The girl cursed again and ran after, putting on an extra burst of speed, but
slipped on a loose rock. With a cry, the girl fell off the cliff and over the edge.
Gohan was humming a tune to himself as he flew over the forest. His mom had finally let him take a break from
studying and he intended to spend it visiting Piccolo-san. Of course, Chi Chi thought he was out catching fish and had
ordered him back by 3:00, but that was a different matter.
All of a sudden, he stopped in midair. He thought he heard a scream
Gohan landed softly beside a small bush and looked around. He couldn't see anybody, but he was sure he'd heard
somebody scream... Then he heard a soft groaning sound coming from his right. He quietly followed the source of the
sound, hiding his ki as he went, just in case. When he found the source of the sound, he stood and stared.
"Uh...A-are you...Okay?" He realized later on that this was kind of a stupid question, judging by the fact that the girl
in front of him was covered with cuts and bruises and her ankle was twisted at a funny angle, but hey, it was the
thought that counted. She was sprawled on her back in a pile of rubble at the bottom of a large, but very rocky hill. The
girl stared up at Gohan. Her vision was blurring rapidly, and she couldn't figure out what was going on. Where was the
rabbit she had been chasing? She tried to sit up but winced in pain; her arms were covered with cuts, and blood was
seeping through her gi. Her head was swimming; she tried to get a good look at Gohan, but to her he looked like a
short blurry rabbit with weird hair. She was rapidly losing consciousness.
"Uh? Pervert...man rabbit...dinner" Then she groaned softly and closed her eyes. Her head lolled to one side.
Gohan panicked.
"H-hey, wake up! C-c'mon, you're not dead a-are you? Say you're not dead! Don't be dead, please don't be dead!"
He stopped to catch his breath. Okay. Calm down, Gohan. Don't panic. She might not be dead, the hill wasn't that
high, was it? She could still be alive. Just cause she's bleeding all over the place doesn't mean she's deadWhat's that
thing you do to check if they're dead? Oh yeah. The pulse. Check the pulse! Gohan took a deep breath and gingerly
reached over. He grabbed her wrist and put two fingers on it. He breathed a huge sigh of relief. She still had a pulse.
She was just unconscious. Knowing what he had to do, Gohan hauled her up onto his shoulder and flew off in the
direction of his house.Gohan landed with a thump in the woods just outside his house. Landing wasn't so easy when you were carrying
somebody considerably bigger than you were. Not knowing how his mom would react to him having a girl in his room
(horror of horrors! Cooties!), he sneaked in through the back door. As he went, he grabbed the emergency first aid kit
from the kitchen cupboard. Then he began walking up the stairs to his room, still half-carrying, half-dragging the girl.
"Oh, you're home already, Gohan?" Gohan froze halfway up the stairs. If his mom caught him now, he would be
dead meat. He glanced back and breathed a small sigh of relief. There was still a chance. His mom wasn't in the
kitchen yet, she was just in the living room and had heard him come in.
"Uh...Yeah mom. The fish weren't biting."
"Oh, well get back to studying then. You know how I want you to be a doctor."
"Y-yeah, I'm workin' on that" Gohan reached for the doorknob to his room and realized that his sleeve had blood on
it. Oh great, he thought to himself, Bloodstains are so hard to get outShe was lying on something soft and comfy. Well, comfier than the grass and dirt that she usually slept on
anyway. She opened her eyes, and instantly closed them again. Everything was so bright. Alive or dead? She
wondered. Then she realized that her arms and legs still hurt. Alive. Definitely alive. She sat up, opened her eyes
again and found that she was staring at a young boy with spiky black hair sitting cross-legged on the bed. Instinctively,
she groped for her stick, but couldn't find it. Confused, she glanced over her shoulder and happened to notice her
arms. She jumped. There were little beige patches stuck all over her! She gingerly tugged a bit on the edge of one, but
it wouldn't come off. Getting desperate, she yanked on it hard and yelped. These things hurt!
"They're called Band-Aids. I know they hurt if you try to rip 'em off. But they're good for cuts and stuff. That's why
they're on you." The girl scrambled backwards till she bumped into the wall, then braced her arms against the wall in
an attempt to stand up, glaring furiously at him all the way. Her left ankle hurt like mad, so she leaned heavily on her
right. All of a sudden she lunged at Gohan, screaming some indistinguishable battlecry. Gohan picked out the words
"Die" and "Pervert" somewhere in the sentence. He yelled in surprise and jumped off the bed, causing the girl to land
face first on the mattress and bounce once or twice, then come to a stop sprawled out in an ungainly heap across the
mattress like a sick bat. After a few seconds she raised her head to glare viscously at him again.
"Where stick, pervert boy?!" she demanded. Her voice was slightly husky, as if wasn't quite used to using it. Gohan
stepped back and pointed to his dresser, where her stick was leaning against one of the open drawers. He didn't take
time to ponder the meaning of the sudden pervert nickname he'd acquired. The girl slowly and painfully sat up on her
knees, then glared at Gohan again. She put both hands out in front of her. Even though he couldn't feel any ki rising,
Gohan had a nasty feeling that he knew what she was about to do.
"Whoa! Wait! Time out!!!" he shouted, making a time-out signal with his hands. "I'm trying to help you here!!!" She
rolled her eyes and didn't lower her hands. "I am!! You fell off a cliff and hurt yourself, if you don't believe me just look at
yourself, you're bleeding all over!! The Band-Aids are to stop the bleeding!!" She hesitated and looked herself over;
come to think of it she did look pretty beat up. Oh yeah, she'd been chasing after that stupid rabbit and fallen off that
cliff She must've hit her head or something Slowly she lowered her hands, but didn't stop glaring at him.
"Leave now." She said quietly.
"Huh?"
"I leave now." She repeated, edging towards the end of the bed and letting her legs hang off the end.
"You can't! You've got a--" She fixed him with a calm glare.
"Be fine in little while." She braced her arms against the mattress and began to stand up.
"Wait a sec--"
The girl hauled herself off Gohan's bed and stood up. As soon as her left foot touched the ground she let out a
strangled cry of pain and fell back on the bed.
"I was trying to tell you that you sprained your ankle..." The girl took a deep breath, wincing in the process. Gohan
hesitated and walked towards her again, sticking a Band-Aid on a small cut on her arm. She jerked away, wide eyed.
Gohan held his hands up and stepped back.
"Hey, I'm trying to help you, remember? Stay still, you're still cut up pretty badly" The girl narrowed her eyes; this boy
didn't seem too dangerous, but you could never tell. Without warning, he put another band-aid on her arm. She jerked
back again, then stared warily at the small beige patch. Gohan, being the nice little guy he was, decided to attempt to
strike up a conversation. He smiled politely.
"I'm Son Gohan. What's you're name?"
She didn't answer; she just kept staring suspiciously at him.
"Go-Haan?" She pronounced the "han" part wrong, the way she said it made it rhyme with "man".
"Well, yeah, butNo! Go-han, as in, rhymes with lawn. What's you're name?"
"Why should tell?" Gohan rolled his eyes, slightly hurt.
"Yeesh, not very trusting, are you. Hold on, you've got another cut on your wrist." She actually stood still as he put
another Band-Aid on. She stared at him for a few minutes as he rummaged around in the 1st aid kit; she still wasn't
quite sure what to make of him. He was too dang nice. It was freaking her out. Nonetheless, he didn't look especially
dangerous and she'd find a way out of this place anyway, it wouldn't matter.
"Yari." Gohan looked up from the emergency 1st aid kit.
"Huh?"
"Name Yari." All of a sudden, he grinned.
"Nice to meet you, Yari..."
"Yari go now. No need pervert boy help. Be fine in little while." She levered herself off the bed again with her arms.
"Wait a minute! Your--" He was cut off by Yari wincing in pain and flopping back on the bed again. After a few more
painful attempts to walk away, Yari reluctantly sat down and let Gohan apply bandages and such, muttering and
cursing to herself under her breath all the way. It was around this time that Gohan noticed her pointy ears and fangs.
He wasn't too shocked; after all, some of his best friends had pointy ears and fangs. He did kinda wonder how she
came by them, she looked pretty human.
"Y'know what?" said Gohan as he bandaged up a nasty cut on her leg. "You kinda remind me of Piccolo-san."
Yari's eyes narrowed.
"Who Pico-sand?"
"Piccolo-san. He's a friend of mine. You even look a bit like him; you've both got pointy ears and fangs." He grinned
again. "Then again, I guess you're not that much like him, you're not green" Yari slowly edged away, it hurt her ankle a
bit but she didn't care. She had an uneasy feeling that she knew who Gohan was talking about. Gohan cocked an
eyebrow, confused. Then he noticed a small trickle of blood going down Yari's face. He looked up a bit and saw a
large red smudge on her bandana where blood had seeped through.
"Hey, could you take off your bandana for a sec? I need to bandage up that cut on your forehead."
"NO!!" Yari hurriedly backed away from him, until she almost fell off the bed.
"Nani? What's wrong?"
"Nothing wrong. No take bandana off! Yari fine, pervert boy. No bleed."
"You are so bleeding, I can see the blood. It's going through your bandana." Yari clapped a hand to her forehead,
wincing a bit.
"No bleed!!"
"Um...yeah. You're still bleeding." He reached forward and pried Yari's hand away, it was covered in the red stuff.
*sweatdrop*
"Come on, what's the big deal? Just take it off, I need to clean it and bandage it. It'll be fine." He started walking
towards her, holding a large bandage in one hand and some disinfectant in the other.
"NO!!!!" Yari was looking downright panicked now. She threw a punch at Gohan, but he jumped over it and landed
right next to her.
"Hey, what gives? I'm trying to help you here!"
"Stupid pervert boy no take bandana off! I kill if try again!" She hissed.
"B-but!" Yari growled and tried to punch him again. Gohan dodged again, and grabbed her bandana. She cried out
and kicked Gohan in the stomach so hard that he flew across the room and crashed into the dresser.
"Go-haaan! What's going on up there?!"
"N-nothing mom. I'm just...Moving furniture around..."
"Okay, dear! Keep studying up there, y'hear?"
Yari stared at Gohan, terrified. Gohan stared at the dirty, bloodstained bandana in his hand, and then slowly
looked up at Yari, who was still sitting on the bed. His eyes widened.
"Holy...You really do look like Piccolo-san..."
