Girl's Story
By Kanojo

Prologue

She's 3 years old, her mommy just gave her a new nightgown, and she swirls and twirls until she gets dizzy and falls down.  The girl laughs as her big, strong daddy gives her a new doll and carries her to bed in his huge arms.  Then she is placed on her bed, and falls asleep immediately.
When she wakes up, she's in someone's arms again, and they're every bit as strong as her fathers are; as a matter of fact, she thinks it is her father - until she notices the arms are green!  The girl kicks the green man in the stomach and, not expecting the attack, he drops her.  With cat like reflexes, she lands on her feet and starts screaming at the strange man.  He stands there and scowls.  Used to having everything her way, she tells him to take her home.
"No way," he says, picks her up like a sack of potatoes, and starts walking again.  This time when she kicks, he's ready for it, but the girl moves quickly enough that she slips away from him. It was the way she moved to slip away from her daddy when he would play with her in the yard.
She again demands that she be taken home, the man reaches for her, she steps back from his frightening looks, and hits a tree. She has never climbed trees before, so she's stuck.  The man reaches for her and she sits and cries and screams.
Then, she feels the urge to fight.  She stands up, tears falling from her face, and softly, yet firmly, orders the man to take her home.  He laughs!  That is the last straw, she sees a stick has found it's way into her hand, and snaps it in two.  The girl steps towards the man and he tries to grab her again.  She gives him a kick to the shins, and starts screaming at him while she punches him in the ribs
When she wakes, she is lying by a fire; her dolly tucked in her arm and her new nightgown a mess.  The strange man (she later finds out his name is Piccolo) says that she was quite a fighter for one so little, and starts talking to her about teaching her to fight.
"You'll be as strong as your father.  No, stronger," he says, "I'll teach you to be strong in heart as well as body, something he could never do.  He's too soft."  He then goes on to explain why the girl had been taken, but she falls asleep before two words come from his mouth.

Our Story Begins

Piccolo took Goku's only daughter in the middle of the night.  He had carried her out into the woods when she woke up. The child begins to fight, and Piccolo is very surprised; Chichi never let Goku do any marshal arts with her "precious baby."  A true fighter, like her father, he thinks grimly.  She eventually tires out after a big fight with him and Piccolo decides to hide the girl from Goku longer while he teaches her marshal arts.  He figures he should have some kind of goal in his life after he kills Goku, and begins at once.  There is one strange feature about "the Girl" she has a tail.  (NOTE: BECAUSE OF HER HARD TRAINIG SHE IS EXAUSTED AT THE END OF THE DAY, AND HAS NEVER SEEN A FULL MOON)
Goku, in the mean time, is searching everywhere for his daughter.  He has no idea it was Piccolo that took her, and never even suspects it.  After about a month, Goku goes home and lets Chichi know he failed.  (He sleeps in the forest for a while after this.)  Piccolo continues his teaching the girl and feels no remorse for what he's done, he goes on with life and sees Goku without flinching, never telling him where his daughter is.  Life goes on, Gohan is born, years go by, and Chichi never lets him out of her sight.
One morning, Piccolo leaves the girl behind to look at what was happening in the world.  When he returns home later, she is gone.  I knew it would happen eventually, he thinks, but not when she's this young!  He looks for the girl for a few days, with no luck.
A little while later, Piccolo was meditating and felt a large power source.  As he soon finds out, Raditz has come to earth.  Although Piccolo wants to find the girl, he lets her go.  She could take care of herself better than most people could at 40.  After this died down, he could find her and continue their lessons.  Heck, he thought. We could use her on this big ape.  If this guy is really Goku's brother, then not only is he Gohan's uncle but hers as well; it seems that these Saiyans are all warriors.  Not only that, that girl has had training, and we could use another fighter.  A real one, not another softhearted wimp like these friends Goku is so fond of!
As chaos struck the world, Girl, as she was now called, set out from Piccolo's place to find her real family.  (Girl got her name because Goku and Chichi could never decide on a name for her, and they called her "precious baby," or "daddy's little girl" or something along those lines.  Since Piccolo wouldn't call her those, he called her Girl until it stuck.)  Girl loved her teacher Piccolo very much, but instinct told her she was not his daughter.  Not only that, she didn't think the way Piccolo treated her was the way a father treats his daughter.
She began in the woods where Piccolo had given her her first lessons.  When Girl came to a house, (little did she know it was where she had been born) she looked inside and saw another girl.  She had never seen anyone else but Piccolo that she remembered, but this girl seemed to look familiar, like the girl she had seen in the river several times before Piccolo explained the word reflection.  It wasn't exactly like that girl; this one seemed a bit larger and much older.  Nevertheless, Girl did not know about windows, and she figured it was just another reflection.
Girl continued her traveling and learned much about the world.  Things called cities, and people in the cities she should stay away from to avoid breaking her nails.  Many of the people she met called them beautiful.  Some people seemed to want to give her a home, but the little people she met, the ones called kids, (Girl discovered that she was one) told her to stay out of the homes.
"The people won' give y' your real mommy 'n' daddy," one girl said, "just people oo' want t' be your mommy 'n' daddy.  It's no' the same.  Those people tried t' give me a home, but I got away!"  The look of pride on the girl's face told Girl that not many escaped like she did.
When Girl had been away from Piccolo for a long time, one of her friends taught her about make-up and dresses.  Girl hardly remembered dresses, but she had been wearing one when Piccolo had found her so she at least knew what one was.  It was a hassle to wear when training, so Piccolo had given her something more suitable to wear.  Girl kept the old dress in the bottom of her pack, where it was out of the way but still with her.  After this friend, she left the city looking more beautiful than ever.  Girl had never cut her long black hair, her nails had been clipped short to make fighting easier, and every once in a while she wore a dress her friend had given her, and "painted" her face.
Girl never stayed in one place too long, but she always moved, always searched, never found, and, more often than not, found herself wondering if that first house she had seen had really shown her reflection.
Before Girl even realized it, she was heading towards Piccolo's Place. If anyone could tell her where her family was it was Piccolo. It had never occurred to her that he would tell her; even now she doubted he would, but the memory of the lady in the window held her tight and pulled as hard as Piccolo ever had when she refused to obey. This wouldn't let go though. Day and night the memory filled her. She didn't sleep and hardly ate. Girl kept running as if she could out run the feeling, and leave it far behind, but she couldn't.
Eventually, Girl got back to The Forest. The Forest was not just any old forest; it was her Forest. The one where Girl had her first memories of life, lying by a campfire, listening to Piccolo talk about She had fallen asleep before she could hear what he had to say, but it didn't matter; Girl was back in Her Forest, where she had lived since when she could remember.
It had been an entire year since Girl had been in The Forest. She could have been there in no time, but she got a little lost when she went on foot, and normally avoided flying. It wasn't that she was scared of it; she was scared of the people that would see her. The cities had made her cautious of such things. People were more likely to use a weapon Girl couldn't handle to ward her off or force her to do something rather than using their own two hands if they had seen her power.
Now that she was back to her own territory, she flew to Piccolo's.  She knew he'd be off training somewhere so walked right in.  The place looked deserted, but she thought nothing of it.  Piccolo's pallet was folded and in the closet - what he did when he left his place for a long period of time - and her stuff, well, she had been gone for a year, what did she expect?  She didn't expect her things to be just as she left them - and they weren't.  As a matter of fact, she hadn't expected Piccolo would have kept them for her, but he had.  Girl's things were tied neatly in a bundle in the storeroom, labeled with squiggly lines on a piece of paper she couldn't read.
Girl took the bundle and opened it carefully.  There was a doll she had left hidden from Piccolo, (she didn't want him to think her a baby, but he had apparently known about it all along) some training suits, night clothing, and a sewing kit to keep them in shape.  Girl took the clothing and the kit from the bundle, and removed all the clothing from her pack (except the little dress she had worn so long ago), and got to work mending holes and making each item bigger than before.  She accomplished this by using older, more worn out suits to patch up holes in her newer ones.  When she was done, Girl had fewer outfits, but the few she had fit better, with a little extra room to boot.  Girl cleaned up, took the paper with squiggly lines, put it at the bottom of her pack with her old dress, and placed the doll and all of her other belongings (including some packs of rations from Piccolo's cupboard  he didn't eat, but she did) on top of it.  She then left Piccolo's Place and flew to The House (as she had come to call the house in the woods).
Like Piccolo's, this place had the look of desertion, but this time Girl did think about it.  Where is every one?  After a while Girl gave up and left the house.  I'll check the nearest city, and if I don't find anyone like me (she had unconsciously assumed her family would have tails like hers) I'll live in The Forest for forever, she thought as she headed off.
A few days later found Girl getting one of her dresses ready to wear in the city.  It was plain, but well made, and her friend had said it was perfect for her.  After her clothing came a number of "paints" that made her look almost like a different person, sometimes that factor came in handy.  Last of all Girl pinned her hair up, tied a bow in it, and hid her tail.  Then she left her campsite.
By the afternoon she had made it to the city and was passing the hospital when she saw "the girl."  There was no doubt it was she, she even wore the same outfit Girl had seen her in!    Girl stopped and hid around the corner, keeping "the girl" in her sight.  "The girl" entered the hospital and Girl followed.  At the front desk she learned that "the girl's" name was Chichi and she was going in to check on her husband Goku.
Goku!  If she is related to me, and she's about as old as Goku is - which she really does look - then she would have to be my mother.  But Chichi doesn't have a tail and she's married to Goku. Why would Piccolo train me if I were his enemy's daughter?  Nothing made sense.  Just when Girl had recovered her wits, she saw Chichi turning her way and hid.  I can't let her see me until I know what is happening, she thought.
After that, Girl kept a close watch on her supposed mother.  Every day Chichi went into the hospital and came out again talking about how Goku and Gohan would worry her to death.  Who is Gohan?  No matter, thought Girl, if she's my mom I'll meet him eventually, if not, I don't care.
To be able to spy on Chichi a little better, Girl went to a school across the street from the hospital.  It was very convenient because it started the same time Chichi went in the hospital and ended when she came out.  Not only did it keep Girl's mind from worrying about who she was; it taught her a lot of stuff.
Being so old and never going to school really set her behind, but it was just a place to stay during the day while watching Chichi.  Not very long afterwards, Girl was learning to read and write.  She camped outside the city to avoid the people who wanted to give her a new home, and walked into town by following different adults to look like she was with someone.
Girl had so much to do she forgot about the treasures on the bottom of her pack for a time.  She was running out of supplies and was seeing how much longer she could go without hunting when she remembered.  Girl pulled everything out of her pack to make sure she didn't miss a thing.  She emptied the pack and found herself face to face with her old doll.  As she picked it up, a piece of paper rustled.  It was Piccolo's label.  Now Girl looked at it and saw what it said: "Goku's daughter's things."
Now she knew.  And all this time it was at Piccolo's Place or in the bottom of her pack.  Girl set down the paper and the doll and picked up her old night-gown, there, embroidered on the front of it were the words "Chichi's precious girl."  Chichi and Goku, her long lost parents.  How did Piccolo get me?  Why would he teach me?  What am I going to do?  Where's Piccolo?  Do I have brothers and sisters?  Would they remember me?  Should I tell Chichi that she's my mom next time I see her?  Why didn't he tell me?  What am I going to do?  A flood of questions entered Girl's mind with hardly any answers.  Girl continued to go through her things and try to find more answers, but there were none.  After cleaning up her things she lied down and went to sleep with questions in her mind running round and round.
That morning Girl woke from a horrible night, her questions had haunted her dreams like evil spirits.  Even so, she had to do something, and she would.  "Today I will find a way to introduce myself to Chichi."  She resolved aloud.
As she walked through the city, Girl thought about what she would do.  I'll ask to see Goku just before Chichi does, then she'll ask me how I know Goku and I'll explain that I think I'm his daughter.  I'll say I found some things in my guardians' house that told me I was, I looked him up, and eventually found he was at the hospital.  That should do it, she'll be so happy that she won't ask where I was or anything.  Girl had just finished her plan when she got to the hospital.
"I'm here to get the rest of Goku's things.  I'm glad he's gotten better.  When he ran away the last time I was sure he'd kill himself.  But that's my Goku!"  Girl had walked into the hospital just in time to hear Chichi's words.  Oh no!!  He's gone!  All that work for nothing!  Now how do I do this?  Girl walked out of the hospital and to the school across the street, thankful that school kept her too busy to think about anything else.
After a few days of getting ahead of the class in school, (she was a very capable learner and, once she had learned the basics, had gotten to the top of her class in no time) Girl went for a hunting trip.  She was dressed in a hunting outfit that allowed her tail to stick out and boy, did it feel good; in the city she kept it hidden, and it got very cramped.  Girl went to The Forest to hunt and found that Chichi and Goku had not gone back to their home.  She hoped they would soon, Girl could hardly stand the suspense any longer, now that she knew who her parents were, she wanted to meet them.
Where are they? she wondered, staring at the empty house. While Girl stood there, the sound of a vehicle reached her ears. She quickly concealed herself in a nearby tree to watch the car come down the path: it was Chichi! Girl hurriedly dropped from the tree and stepped towards the path. Chichi drove by, parked in front of the house and ran in. This was Girl's chance to introduce herself. Girl ran to the house and knocked on the door. I hope she recognizes me after so long, maybe the tail and the dress and the paper will help. How long has it been anyway? I don't even know how old I am!
The door opened and Chichi looked out at a mirror that made you look extremely younger, prettier and gave you a tail. (Not to mention that made you look very dirty!)  A tail!  Who is this girl?  Chichi thought.
"Excuse me, Ma'am, I'm Girl. I think that"
Chichi no longer listened, she remembered a little girl twirling around in her new night-gown and she was suddenly hugging the same girl  almost nine years grown - in front of her and crying and saying she had thought the girl was dead before she knew it.
"This is so wonderful, I have my baby back!  Well, one of them at least, if only I hadn't let Gohan go to Namek just to wish that awful green man with fangs back!"  Chichi kept repeating things like this and "Oh, my baby, I gave up looking for you so long ago!  Yet here you are!  Oh, my baby!"
At the same time Chichi was doing this, Girl had stopped talking mid-sentence and was standing stiff as a stone staring at her mother.  Well, she is my mother, right?  Girl had never had a hug, it was a nice feeling she got from it, and she knew that it meant love, her friends had told her that much, but it was odd.  To Girl's great relief, Chichi had let go of her and was asking millions of questions and telling her to get into the car all at the same time.
"Why should I?"  Girl asked.
"Why?  I'm your mother, and I told you so, that's why!  You should know better than to question me!  Where have you been to get such horrible manners?  Never mind, I'll fix that soon enough but right now we're leaving.  Come on now, get in the car!"  Chichi seemed to be in a hurry, but this was hard, Girl still had doubts if this person could be her mother; maybe she wasn't - where was her tail?
"I asked why I should get in the car, you didn't answer."  Girl said in a tone that was cool as ice.
"I did too!  I told you that you should because I said so.  Really child, stop questioning me and get in the car!"  Chichi was getting upset now.
"What if you aren't my mom?  Where's your tail?  How do you know that I'm your daughter?"  Girl was upset too, but she didn't let it show.  This is just like a physical fight, she thought, I'm not going to let down my guard or show the opponent my weak spot!
"What?  Not your mother?"  Chichi laughed, "Of course I'm your mother!  Why should I have a tail?  I know that you're my daughter because you look like me, you act (and smell) like Goku, and, most importantly, you have a tail.  I won't hear another word about it.  Get in the craft and do as I say; I'll teach you some manners yet!"
Just like that Chichi had put Girl in her place.  This unsettled Girl very much.  If Chichi is always like this, how will she act if I left for a little while?  Piccolo taught me to let my anger out by going far away from everyone and blasting as much as I want until I'm calm.  What would Chichi think of that?  Girl voiced her thoughts yet again.
"Chichi?"  Girl said when her mother took a breath.
"Call me Mom precious, I'm Chichi to adults and Dad only."
"Fine."  Girl was too tired to argue about weather that Chichi was really her mom or not.  "Would you let me leave for a little while if I got mad?"
"No.  I couldn't bear to have you leave me again, even if you were kidnapped the first time.  You might be kidnapped again if you went out by yourself.  If you were mad you could punch a pillow.  Now, get in the car!"
Girl silently laughed at the thought of her punching a pillow to calm down and was glad she wasn't the pillow.  Once she had been so mad she taken out a whole mountain!  "But Piccolo -"
"PICCOLO!!  SO IT WAS HIM!!"  Chichi roared.  "I never liked that man, and when he took my little Gohan that was hard enough, but he took you too?!  I really wish I had never let Gohan leave this planet.  Oh that wretched, wretched man!"
"Wretched?!  He taught me almost everything I know!  Why, he taught me the thing I love most in the whole world.  He taught me marshal-arts!"  Girl had tried to soothe Chichi and ended up making everything worse.
"Not only does he take you from our house in the middle of the night, he teaches you that?  I know that's what Goku does, but I never wanted you to learn.  I never even wanted Gohan to learn but between Goku and that green skinned, sharp toothed- Oh!  What am I going to do?"
The distressed mother stood staring at her baby girl for a long time.  Neither said anything until Chichi broke the silence.
"I never even gave you a name! How about-"
"Girl.  My name is Girl.  That's the only name I've ever known, and I'll continue to go by it."  Girl was not about to give up her own name because someone who might be her mother wanted her to.  "By the way, who's Gohan?  I've heard you say that name a lot, but I don't know who it is."  Just like a fight, Girl thought as she watched Chichi started at the sudden change of subject.
"Gohan is your little brother.  He's not home because he went to wish that awful green-skinned-"
"Okay.  Whatever."  Girl had the feeling that Chichi could rant and rave about Piccolo all day.  "Where's Goku?"
"He's gone to get Gohan, Krillan and Bulma. To actually help Gohan wish-"
"Yeah, I know.  He's gone to get Piccolo. Do me a favor and don't call him any more names.  He's the closest thing to family I have. Why don't you like him?  What did he do to you?" Girl was trying very hard not to yell at her supposed mother. She was beginning to suspect what side she got her temper from, and what side she got her talents from.  That is to say, if they were her parents.
"He took you, and Gohan, he's killed Goku (thank goodness we have dragon balls) and done many, many other things. He's green, has fangs and pointy ears and is just plain horrible!  Why he's-"
"I get your point. Now, if I go with you, where will we be going, why will we be going there, and what are we going to be doing there?" Years spent with Piccolo had made her very untrusting to everyone. (Except Piccolo of course, she almost trusted him with her life  almost)
"You have no right to be asking me the questions. I'm your mother. But since you seem to not take that for an answer, I'll tell you. I'm going to Professor Briefs house to make him build another spaceship so I can save my babies." Chichi paused to get a breath, "You are coming with me because I am never taking my eyes off you again."
"I think I'll pass. You see, I don't do well with people, and I have no memories of seeing anyone but Piccolo until a year ago. If I tried, I could get along with a few people, but I stay away from most people." Girl saw the growing disbelief on her mother's face. She had no doubt that Chichi was her mother now; most people would have given in to Girl by now, only someone with a stronger will wouldn't. Those people would be Piccolo and her mother and father.
Even as Girl wanted to shout for joy that she had found her parents, she wanted to scream for having a mother so dedicated, so strict - so intolerable - as Chichi. There was only room enough for one controlling figure in Girl's life, and that was Girl. She had followed Piccolo out of respect and fear, and she would again, but Chichi was weaker, and Girl didn't respect people weaker in strength than she was.
Chichi realized this just as Girl thought of it. She saw the look on her daughter's face, and saw it as one she had worn many times herself. Girl had inherited Chichi's stubbornness and it was impossible to make her not do something she wanted to do. As Girl spoke, Chichi had realized that she had been thinking she wasn't going to make her baby come with her, and she didn't believe it. I must be going crazy, she thought. I can't let her go! She was taken away once, and now I might never see her again. I can see she is wild; she's probably never even been to school. I can't let her go, not now that I've just gotten her back! I'll ask her to come. If I ask, maybe she'll agree. I hope so.
Girl watched a flood of emotions wash over her mother's face, and knew that if Chichi went, she would follow.  She had just found her parents, and no matter how restricting, she was going to stay with them. Besides, she reasoned, I still have to meet Goku and Gohan.
"Could I-"
"Would you-"
Both mother and daughter blushed and answered together.  "Of course."
Chichi helped Girl into the vehicle, (she had never been in one) and started it up.  As they were driving, Chichi asked Girl millions of questions.  Girl didn't answer any.  She had fallen asleep; it had been a long day.
When Girl woke she was still in the car and Chichi was peering down at her.  "We're here, ba  ah, er  Girl" Chichi stumbled over the name.  "Come inside and I'll help you get cleaned up.  I'll even find you a dress to wear."
"I can do it myself, thanks.  I have a dress in my pack."  Girl got up hurriedly.  Thump!  Girl hit her head on the roof.  "Oops!  Did I dent that? Can you show me where I can change?  You must want me to bathe too, huh?  I guess I could.  I always hated baths, but  Hey!  What're you doing?  What's so funny?"  Girl had stopped talking because her mom was laughing hysterically.
"It's just hee hee what hah hah you  said!  Haha!  If I didn't hear you with my own ears, I would think you were a different person!  Before we started driving you were as cautious as, as, I don't know!  I've never seen anything that cautious.  But now that you've had a nap, and "
"I don't take naps!  I am not a little baby, and I want you to stop laughing right now!  I was just a little excited, that's all.  I haven't seen you for so long, that I got carried away.  If you don't stop I'll leave.  I mean it!"  Girl realized that Chichi had stopped laughing and was looking deathly pale now.
"I I didn't mean it," Chichi stammered.  "I'm sorry Girl, please don't leave.  I wouldn't be able to stand it."
"It's okay, just don't do it again.  I hate it when people laugh at me.  Hey, where am I supposed to clean up at?"  Girl again changed the subject to make her mother feel comfortable.
"Right in here."  Chichi took Girl into the house, past a noisy room (there must have been a lot of people in there!) and to the bathroom.  "You get cleaned up while I find a dress for you to wear, okay?"
"But, I already have a dress.  See?"  As she was speaking, Girl pulled out her favorite dress, the only one with a hole for her tail.  "I don't wear them much, but I do wear them, and I have some makeup too.  I won't wear it though, I only use it when I want to look different."
"Oh, that will look great on you!"  Chichi exclaimed.  "When you're done I'll do your hair for you and then I'll introduce you to everyone.  They'll be so surprised!  Don't take too long" Chichi paused and seemed to be considering something.  "Are you sure you want to be called Girl?  It is so odd.  You could be called-"
"Girl is my name and it's NOT changing.  Go wait for me.  I'll be out soon."  Girl was growing very impatient with her mother's persistence to change her name.
Chichi went down the hall to where everyone was trying to act as if everything was normal, and got a few weird glances, but she did pretty well.  I can still hardly believe it!  When Gohan and Goku get back they'll be so surprised!  Especially Gohan, he'll have a big sister.  Goku will love this!  He's going to see his baby girl again.  What will I do about that name?  Just like Piccolo to call her that!  When I see that pointy-toothed man I'll teach him to take my baby, the nerve!  Millions of thoughts raced through Chichi's mind.  After a bit, she went to the bathroom door and knocked.
"I'm ready Chichi, come in."  Girl's voice sounded different, and it wasn't just because of the door.  Chichi walked in and saw a new person.  Before, there had been a pretty girl dressed in a dirty and torn hunting suit, her hair in tangles, tied in a ponytail behind her back, and her skin almost as brown as the dirt ground she had stood on in the forest.  Now Chichi saw a beautiful girl, in a small dress of forest green cloth, her half-dried hair hanging loosely to the floor, and clean, healthy, tanned skin.  "Do you have a hairdryer?  I don't need to do anything with it but dry and brush it.  Does my dress look all right?  It's been a while since I've worn one."  Girl's voice sounds strange still, is she getting a cold?  No, that isn't it, what's wrong with her?  Now Chichi noticed her daughter's tail flicking back and forth like a metronome.  She's nervous!
"You look more than fine, you look beautiful. Here's the hairdryer and a brush. Let's get to work." Chichi was surprised at the young girl's intense beauty. Did I ever look this beautiful? My! She even looked pretty when she was in dirty and ragged clothes! Goku will be so proud of her; I can see him smiling now!
After a while, mother and daughter finally came out from the bathroom. Chichi led Girl to the room they had passed earlier, and made her wait just outside the door. Chichi walked in and got everyone's attention. "Hey, everyone, listen up!  There's someone I want you to meet." Turning to Girl she said, "Come on in now. They're ready."
Everyone in the room watched a beautiful little girl, about 10 or 11 years old enter. Even Master Roshi gasped as he saw the resemblance between Chichi and the child. Few also noticed the look though. The look on the little girl's face was one of a nervous cat. The girl just stood next to Chichi as everyone stared at her. Then, one by one, they began to notice the noise.  Someone was tapping, and it was very annoying. Tap, tap, tap, tap. The sound continued. Chichi shifted and got the girl to move forward. The tapping stopped.
Everyone held his or her breath at the site. The girl had a tail!
"This is Girl everyone. She's my daughter. When she was three, she was kidnapped by Piccolo-" Chichi was, again, cut short by her daughter.
"I was not kidnapped. I think I would remember. I remember that he took care of me and taught me what I know. I don't want to hear you say that I was kidnapped!  Piccolo is my teacher, you won't say anything bad about him!" Girl was fuming. She stood glaring at her mother, hands on hips. Everyone stood stalk still except one pig.
"She sure is Chichi's kid! They have matching tempers, that's for sure!" the pig mumbled.  He didn't know that Girl heard. That is, he didn't want her to, but soon found out what great hearing she had.
"You're right, pig, I do have a temper. I don't know about my mom's temper, but I do know that Piccolo taught me how to fight." Girl walked up to the pig and took her fighting stance, "I try not to fight in dresses, but I won't have to worry about ruining it; you seem easy enough! Let's go!" The pig turned from pink to white in 2 seconds and Girl smiled inwardly. I've never seen someone turn white so fast!  Out of the corner of her eye, Girl noticed a short, fat man trying to sneak away, and the people closest grab him.  He hasn't even been threatened and he's trying to run!  What a pack of wimps!
"Uh, no, that's okay!  I'm sorry; I didn't mean to be rude.  Please don't hurt me!"  The pig was stepping back as Chichi put her hand on Girl's shoulder.
"He, he!  She sure has spunk!  Not quite like Goku; he wouldn't have tried to fight - much like Piccolo though.  I bet that girl can pack a wallop!"  There was an old man leaning on his cane that had come forward to look at Girl while saying that.  "Pleased to meet you, Girl.  I 'm Master Roshi.  I was your father's trainer for a time.  You sure look like your mother, but there's no doubting that you're Goku's child.  That tail's a dead giveaway!  I wonder if you fight as well as you seem to think. Do you think you could show me some time?"
"Of course, Master Roshi, but maybe when I'm in something more comfortable.  You're right though; I don't think my father would have tried to fight.  Before I knew he was my father, I heard Piccolo say a lot about him.  I knew they were enemies, and Piccolo had always told me Goku was too soft.  You have proven it to me.  Piccolo taught me to have no mercy, and to never back down from a fight.  I keep his instructions with me, and practice every day that I can.  Since I haven't practiced for a while, I'll be glad to allow you to watch me when I have the time to."  As an after thought, Girl added, "What do you mean about my tail being a dead giveaway that I was Goku's daughter?"  Chichi was shocked.  Girl had never even said this much to her!
"Well," Master Roshi said, "when Goku was small, he had a tail.  He still would, but it caused a lot of trouble, so it had to be removed."
Girl unconsciously grabbed her tail out of the sheer horror of the thought.  "What kind of trouble?"  Girl was proud that she had succeeded in making her voice seem so calm.  Inwardly she was ready to hide under a rock.  Girl realized she was holding her tail and forced herself to let go.  "What can a small tail do?"
"That's for some other time, Girl.  Right now I want you to change so I can see your abilities all right?"  Master Roshi's eyes twinkled so merrily that Girl almost ran to obey.  Why am I scared of such a weak old man?  I'm glad Piccolo's not here to see how I acted; I was so terrified!
As Girl got on her training suit she heard her mother yelling at someone.  I guess we do have matching tempers.  Let's see what I need, I'll grab a tie for my hair, and do I want my weighted suit or my cloth one?  I'll take the one that looks like Piccolo's.  That should scare them!  Girl laughed as she pictured how scared the pig had been.  This is going to be fun!  Girl thought as she walked outside in her suit ready to work out, she had even acquired a cape to go with it, but she didn't have a turban.
Everyone except Master Roshi was back to whatever they were doing, and he was out in the yard marking off an area for Girl.  I wonder how large a space he'll give me, she thought.  As if it mattered, Piccolo had trained her for any type of situation.
Girl continued her walk up to Master Roshi.  "Oh, there you are Girl, I've almost gotten everything in place.  All I need now are the dummies.  Go stand over there with your eyes shut while I set them up.  I don't want you to know where they are before they pop out on you!"
"Why don't you give me a real opponent?"  Girl sneered.  "Do you think I'm not good enough?"
"No, not exactly.  You see, all the fighters we have are either dead, on Namek, or not really fighters at all.  The last category is for Yajorobi.  He's the fat one in the orange suit."  Master Roshi said.  "Alright young lady, begin."
As Master Roshi said this, he flipped a switch and let the first dummy pop out at Girl.  She hit it square in the stomach, then went to the next with lightning speed.  Dumbfounded at the little girl's quickness, Master Roshi watched the last dummy fall to the ground.  It had taken the girl a minute to hit them all.  There were 100 dummies, and Girl was still wearing the weighted cape.  She didn't even pant!
"How old did you say you were?" he managed to gasp.
"I don't know. I've never had a birthday before."
Chichi had come up at this moment and told them, "She'll be twelve soon."
"Really?  I'll be twelve?  Wow."  Girl quickly covered her emotions with a blanket of calm.  It took a lot of effort, but she succeeded.  Everything seemed to be backwards, Girl couldn't even control her feelings anymore!
"Yes, you'll be twelve, and far behind on your school work.  I don't believe that you've ever gone to school!  There is so much for you to do.  Come with me and I'll get you started right away."
"No."  Girl folded her arms and stared defiantly at her mother.  "I am not going to let you 'get me started.'  I want to show you something."
"Come on Girl.  I've given you slack because you've been taught horrible manners by-" Chichi stopped herself before she said anything about Piccolo.  She wanted to avoid Girl's anger as much as possible.  "I've given you slack, but now you need to listen and obey!"
"Let me show you something first."  Girl insisted.
"Girl, I won't have that anymore!  Come with me this-" Chichi was, for the umpteenth time, cut off by Girl.
"NO!  You come with me!  I want to at least show you a few things before starting schoolwork again!  You didn't even ask if I'd been to school!  Well I have.  Now, come with me!"  So saying, Girl stalked into the house where she'd left her bag and dumped it on the floor.  When Chichi caught up, there were small piles of different odds and ends spread around her daughter.
"This is my sewing kit that Piccolo taught me how to use.  These are the lasts of the rations I was using.  These are my training suits, my dresses, and my makeup.  And these," Girl pulled a few things out from under her bag, "these are what helped me find you."  Girl continued as her mother looked at the items.  Her mother's eyes were filled with tears as Girl explained how her life had been with Piccolo, why she had left, and why she had come back.  "I found you, and decided to watch you and see if you were my mom.  Since you went in the hospital everyday, I went in the school everyday.  We went in and came out at the same time.  I was even learning stuff while I waited for you.  Then I found the things I had kept at the bottom of my pack for so long.  They are what led me to you."
"The dress and doll you got.  They were brand new the night that that you disappeared."  Chichi seemed to try hard not to accuse any particular green fanged man.  She had succeeded well, too.
"May I be alone somewhere for a little while?  I need to think about some things."  I need to find out what happened that night.  Girl was already thinking she knew, but couldn't bring herself to say it.
"Of course, I'll take you up to a room, all right?  You can do all the thinking you want.  I have something for you though.  It's not the best, but I have all the good ones on the walls at home."  Chichi handed Girl a slightly wrinkled picture.  It was of a tall, strong man, with black hair, holding a small boy about three years old.  Girl knew immediately that it was her father and brother.
"Thank you, I always wondered what Goku looked like."  I always wondered if I even had a brother, I have the answer to both those questions now.  Girl followed her mother to a nice quiet room.
When Girl was sure that Chichi had gone away from the door, she let her tears flow freely.  In all her years, Girl never remembered crying.  Now, when she had found her family, she let out a flood of teardrops, not from sorrow, but joy.  Joy, relief, and excitement.  She was so happy!  At last, after what she figured to be almost nine apart, Girl had found her family and she would never leave them.  True, Girl had had a difficult time accepting Chichi, but she knew it would work out. It had to.
Enough crying, I don't see a reason to cry, so stop!  Girl had become very strict with herself in the past years.  Let's get to work on remembering.  I need to remember what happened before I met Piccolo.  Before I disappeared from my parents' home.
Girl had an idea.  I'll remember my father and what he was like; that is a good start.  Girl began to think, but nothing came.  She looked at the picture Chichi had given her, looked at Goku's smile, his hair, she studied every detail, even his boots.  Then she hid the picture and closed her eyes.
A picture began to form in her mind.  At first it was only a copy of the picture she held, but slowly, ever so slowly, the picture became more lifelike, more real.  Girl saw her father watching her from his chair by the fire.  He was watching her do something.  He was  He was watching her  He was watching her spin!  That was it!  Girl could remember spinning around and around, her daddy watching her from the chair near the fire.  Why had she been spinning?  Girl didn't know.  Had Chichi been there?
There was a knock at the door and Girl lost her concentration.  "Girl?  May I come in?"  It was Chichi.
"Sure Chichi."  Girl strived to call back the image, but it wouldn't come.  "Would you tell me about what Goku is like?  I'd like to know something about him before we meet."
Chichi took a place on the bed next to where Girl was sitting. She didn't even tell her daughter to call her mom. "Well," she began, "your father" Chichi and Girl spent the rest of the evening, a lot of that night, and the whole next morning talking about the past, and Girl also spent that night trying to recall it.
It was a few days later when Girl finally started to remember things that had happened to before she had lived with Piccolo. This was no easy task, it had been so long ago, and Girl had been so little, but after a while Girl stopped imagining things Chichi had told her about, and started remembering them. She remembered playing hide-and-seek with Goku and being read to sleep at night. Even so, Girl still couldn't remember why she had been spinning that night and if Chichi had been there.
"It's like I've blocked it from my memory or something.  Why would I block anything from myself?  What happened that made me try so hard to forget?"  Girl tried hard to find the answers, but there were none.  "I could ask Chichi, but I feel like this is my mystery, one I need to solve alone."
After a little while of spending all her time cooped up in her room, fretting over forgotten memories, Girl decided to get on with things.  She began practicing her fighting stances, and improving her punches and kicks that she had been taught by Piccolo.  After her workout, she would help clean house, wash clothes or study schoolwork.  Once those were finished, Girl would go to her room and read, or just stare at the picture Chichi had given her.
That's when she noticed it.
At first, Girl had stared at only her father, memorizing every hair.  But Girl eventually began to look at her brother, and study his features.  Then, once she had been certain she had memorized everything on the picture, she noticed that her brother was holding something.  Barely visible, almost behind his back, Gohan was holding his tail!
Master Roshi never said anything about my brother having a tail!  Wait, other than saying where he was, they haven't said anything about him!  Why not?  Girl wanted to know at least a little about her brother before she met him!  She went to her mom immediately.
"You haven't told me anything about Gohan.  What is he like?" she asked when she found Chichi.
"Well," Chichi started "he's gone to Namek to use their dragonballs to bring that- uh, I mean, to bring Piccolo back to life."
"Why did Piccolo die?  Hey!  Why would your son go to bring back your Goku's enemy?  Why would Goku go to help?  Why don't you ever tell me specifics about my brother?  And how come you never told me Gohan has a tail?  I want to know, so tell me."  Girl realized she had been very demanding to her mother (like she had been before) and added a reluctant, "Please."
"I don't know exactly how Piccolo died and I don't want to go into that type of discussion with you.  My son, as you put it, went to bring him back because he said something about Piccolo saving him.  Your father went to help because I didn't want Gohan to be alone  you never know what could happen.  I never told you that Gohan had a tail because he doesn't have one anymore  I don't know what happened to it.  I haven't told you anything because you haven't asked. Don't you dare take that tone of voice with me ever again! Understand?  I am your mother and you will be respectful!"  Chichi seemed to be in a bad mood.
"Why don't you just calm down.  I'm sorry I pi- ah, er  I mean, I'm sorry I got you upset, how about I just leave you alone, okay?"  Chichi had a problem with Girl's language every-once-in-a-while too.
Girl headed back to her room to think about things that had happened in the past time she had stayed with Chichi.  Everyone seemed to be getting ready to go to Namek because Chichi wanted them to, but the ship was taking forever to be fixed since her last accident with it.  That, and Girl's grandfather breaking it.
Other than that, there weren't many exciting things happening.  Girl tried to keep herself away from everybody, and ever since she had threatened the pig (Girl had learned his name was Oolong, but she preferred to call him "the pig.") everybody tried to keep themselves away from her.  The only people Girl talked to were Chichi, Master Roshi, and herself.  (This had been a habit of hers since she had started training with Piccolo.)
While Girl reviewed how much her life, her surroundings, and her actions had changed she drifted to sleep.  When she woke, she determined to stay in her room until she discovered more about The Day, and what had happened.  That was why she missed the wonderful news.
One morning, after Girl had finished her stretches, she was sitting on her bed thinking of The Day, just as she had resolved.  (Girl liked naming things, maybe it came from the lack of a real name for her until she was three, but maybe she just likes order.)  I can remember before that day, when I was playing with Dad on the lawn, but not that day!  I know I was happy, and so was Dad.  He was watching me spin, but why was I spinning?  Wait a minute, Chichi said that my doll and nightgown were new that night, was I holding the doll?  Was I wearing the nightgown?  Girl thought about it for a moment and knew.  I was spinning because of my new nightgown!  It felt so nice and comfy.  I think that's it.  Yes!  That's right!  I was spinning in my new nightgown, dancing for Daddy.  I got so dizzy!  There was something else, I didn't have the doll, Chichi said it was new, I must have gotten it after I danced for him.  I can't remember!
Girl covered her face in despair.  "Now what am I going to do?  I can remember things, but they're fuzzy, like I still don't want to remember.  I don't understand.  If something bad happened, why do I remember being so happy?  It must have been after that, but I remember always going to bed near that time.  It must be that  No, he wouldn't, and I won't even think about it until I know for sure what happened that night.  Piccolo might not be the nicest person, but he's still family to me.  Maybe someone else took me, and he found me in the woods.  That's it!  It has to be.  I'll still work on figuring out who, but for now, I'll go outside and sit in a tree for a while."
As she pulled herself into a tree, Girl noticed some people.  A lot of people.  A lot of green people!  They were headed to the house too!  Girl sighed.  "More people, just what I need.  Why can't I just be left alone?  I guess I'm destined to be with people.  Maybe I'm supposed to learn patience.  Fat chance it'll happen though."  Girl ran inside and up to her room.

As Gohan walked up to Bulma's house he looked at the beautiful trees.  There were many kinds, willows, apple trees, birch, maple, and moving trees.  Moving trees?!  Gohan looked back at the "moving tree" and saw a girl running back into the house.  "She has a tail!" he exclaimed to himself, and sped to the door.
When he reached it, Master Roshi was just coming out.  "He, he, Gohan, you're in for one big surprise!  Go on upstairs to the 2nd door on the right.  Hurry now!"  Gohan ran as fast as he could to the indicated room, but found it locked.
"Didn't anyone ever teach you to knock?  If it's you pig, you're in for a fight!  Now scat!"  The mysterious voice from inside the room had a commanding tone like Piccolo's.
"What are you talking about?  I'm Gohan and Master Roshi sent me up here for a surprise!"  Gohan was very confused.
"Gohan!?  Oh great!  Just one minute, and I'll be out!"  The voice changed to a sweet sounding young lady's, from a commanding woman's.  Gohan was more confused than ever!
There was some noise of drawers, and then a clicking of the lock.  The door opened revealing a beautiful young girl a few years older than Gohan.  WOW!  He thought, and took a closer look.  She's wearing Piccolo's outfit!  Who is she?  Why is she wearing Piccolo's suit?  How in the world can she have a tail?! Gohan realized the girl was talking to him.
"I said, 'Hi!'  Can't you talk?"
 Gohan nodded dumbly.
"Whatever. My name is Girl, I'm your older sister, and if you want to know more, ask Chichi. She doesn't know much about me, but knows enough to know what to say to people. I'll be in here until I come out, so don't bother looking for me. Will you stop gaping?"
Gohan shut his mouth and turned to go.
"Wait, on more thing, is Piccolo here?"
Gohan finally recovered his voice, "Yes! How do you know him? I can tell you do because you're of that suit, but I'm not sure how. Would you like me to take you to him? I could do that!"
"No, tell him someone wants to talk to him, lead him to this door, knock twice and leave. I'll explain later."
Gohan was content with this and left to do as he was bidden.
Girl changed into her favorite green dress, let her hair loose, and tied a brown belt around her waist while waiting for Piccolo. Should I punch him? No, he's not that bad, besides, if he had told me who I was I might not have turned out this way!
Two knocks sounded on the door and Girl went to open it.
"Girl!  Where in the world have you-" Piccolo cut off abruptly as two small, yet very strong, arms wrapped themselves around his waist.  He realized he was receiving a hug and awkwardly patted Girl on the head.
She looked up and said in a tiny voice, "Are you mad, Piccolo? About me leaving?"
Piccolo opened his mouth to answer when another knock came to the door.  "Girl?  Are you in there?  I've someone to meet you!"  It was Chichi.
Girl quickly detached herself from Piccolo and went to the door.  Piccolo went to hide in the closet but Girl motioned him to sit in a chair, and opened the door. Piccolo had no choice but to follow directions.
"Honey, this is-" Chichi eyes bulged at the sight of Piccolo, but, seeing Girl's giant grin and pursed her lips and moved into the room to allow another person in. "This is Bulma." So saying, Chichi left the room.
"How are you, Girl? I like your dress, are you trying to impress somebody?" Bulma was a definite valley girl. A snort from the back of the room made Bulma turn and see Piccolo. "Oh! Well, I ah I'll see you later Girl!" With that, the door closed and laughter erupted from within.
"Who does she think I am? Impress somebody! She must be crazy!"
Piccolo smiled, Girl had hardly changed inside. Even if she looked very different on the outside she was still Girl. Once again, he opened his mouth to say something, but was interrupted.
"I'll tell you when everyone's together.  Wait here."  With that, the fairy-like form ran from the room and Piccolo sighed.
Minutes later, Girl returned with Gohan and Dende. Dende had just finished asking Gohan something and Gohan was replying, "I didn't know I had one!"
"I owe an explanation to two of you. It's going to be very lengthy, so take a seat." Piccolo gawked at how comfortable Girl seemed  she hated being with more than one person! He continued to sit in amazement until he saw her tail twitching nervously.
Girl plunged into an explanation starting with, "I met Piccolo in the woods" She glanced at Piccolo many times during her story, but he never said a single word.
When the four of them emerged from Girl's room hours later, Chichi was walking by.
"Mom, is Gok- I mean, is Dad here?"  Girl asked.
Chichi started to bawl and walked away.
"What did I say?"  Girl was confused.
"He stayed on Namek to fight Freiza.  He beat him but, but," Gohan could go no further.
"But the planet blew-up."  Dende finished for him.
"No one said there was going to be any fighting!  Chichi just said you were wishing Piccolo back!  UGH!  I want to fight someone!"  Girl had on a pouty face, which soon turned to shock when Piccolo grabbed her by her hair.
"Speaking of fighting, you need to train.  Let's go."  Piccolo began to drag Girl down the hall.
 "But-"
 "No buts,"
"I need to change!"  Girl complained.
Piccolo stopped and looked at Girl's outfit.  He let go of her hair and growled, "Five minutes."  He resumed down the stairs.

As Vegeta leaned against a tree he watched the comings and goings of all the people at Capsule Corp.  Just then, the Namek, Piccolo, walked outside and stood by the door, counting.  A second later, a small girl came running out behind him.  Vegeta heard Piccolo say, "You're late by two seconds.  I thought I taught you to be more punctual than that."
"Sorry, Piccolo.  I have been running by my own schedule for a while."  The girl isn't intimidated?  Who is she?  Vegeta saw her tail and gaped.
"I thought Kakkarot only had one bratty kid!"
"Me too.  But hey, it won't be too bad having an older sister.  I'm not bratty though."  Gohan had come up next to Vegeta.
"What do you mean?  How could you not know had a sister?"  Vegeta was very confused, but he just looked annoyed.
"I think she got lost in a forest when she was little.  Piccolo found her and raised her.  She ran away to go find us just before Raditz came.  When she found Mom, we were on Namek.  Wow!  Look at 'em go!  I don't think I'll mind having an older sister like this!"  Gohan had turned his attention to Girl's training.
"So she's a better fighter than you?  What's her name?  I'd like to test her myself.  If she has power like you do when she's mad" Vegeta trailed off.
"Her name is Girl.  I'm sure she's better than I am because she's trained longer with Piccolo.  She seems more attached to him than to Mom.  I guess that's because he raised her though."
"What's her name?"
"She never had a name so Piccolo called her girl and it stuck.  Her name's Girl."  Gohan realized how casually he had been talking to Vegeta and freaked.  "Uh, I think my mom wants me."  Gohan ran inside.
Vegeta hardly noticed.  He was concentrating on Girl.  "I wonder how strong she is.  No time like the present to find out."  Girl had stopped fighting and was getting a drink of water.  She took a sip, and proceeded to dump the rest on her head.  Vegeta took this time to study her.  She was wearing a blue tank top and pants, a green belt and wristbands, brown, Namek style boots, and her hair was in a long braid down her back with her tail wrapped around it.
Girl saw Vegeta and turned to walk away.  She didn't feel like giving more explanations of her life. She stopped and sighed as an iron grip -much like Piccolo's- held her shoulder.
"Look I'm not going to tell my life story all over again.  Go bug Gohan; I just told him, it's fresh in his mind.  Let go of me!"
"I wouldn't be so cocky if I were you.  Your brother already explained much to me.  I only wanted your name, but he's a talkative brat, isn't he?"
"Why shouldn't I be cocky?  Are you here to beat me up or something?  I'd be happy to oblige if you were here to fight.  My brother is talkative, but he's not a brat.  At least I don't' think so.  I've only known him for a day.  What did you say your name was?"
"You shouldn't be cocky because some people here are stronger than you.  I wasn't going to necessarily fight you, but I will now. I am Vegeta, a Saiyan warrior."
"Saiyan?  Don't pull my tail!  Speaking of tails, all Saiyans have one.  Where's yours?"  Girl was amused.
"It was permanently removed a while ago. Weren't you taught manners?"  Vegeta squeezed Girl's shoulder.
"That's funny, I was about to ask you the same question!  If you want to fight you'll have to let go eventually."  Girl turned quickly enough to make Vegeta let go.  "That's better.  Now, where do you want to do this?"  She was anxious for a new opponent.
Vegeta smiled; even if she didn't have a tail he would still see her Saiyan blood.
"You speak like a true Saiyan  much unlike your father.  Did you get your attitude from Green Man?"
"Why actually, I did.  You're right, I'm very unlike my father.  From what Piccolo said, he's a softhearted sap.  I think that I believe him.  I'm glad that I met Piccolo.  I might have turned out like Chichi over there.  That wouldn't be pleasant.  Now, if you don't mind, let's stop the chitchat and start the fight.  Where do you want to go?"
"Let's take to the air.  I must say, it's interesting to hear you talk about Kakkarot."  Vegeta leaped into the air.  "Most little brats adore their fathers.  Take your brother for example."
Girl shrugged, "I haven't seen him since I was three.  What do you expect?  Piccolo's more of a father to me, and from what I hear, he's not a very good one.  Let's begin."  Girl had followed Vegeta up.
The two went at each other, first blocking, then attacking.  Vegeta was clearly more experienced, but training with Piccolo had given Girl an understanding of the importance of speed.  While Girl made a mental note to thank him, Vegeta landed a blow to her stomach, then to her face as she involuntarily doubled over.  Girl could hear Piccolo's words quite clearly, as if he was right next to her, "Stupid!  Never take your mind off the fight!"
As Girl retreated and recovered, a sound made both fighters look down.  "Girl, you come down here this instant!  Do you hear me?  I don't want to ever see you fighting especially with horrible aliens from your father's home planet that try to destroy the world!"  Vegeta laughed as Girl's eyes tried to glare at her mother, but grew larger as his purpose on first coming to the planet was revealed.
"We'll do this again some other time Vegeta.  My mother does not control my actions, but I must humor her until she gets rid of this 'precious baby' nonsense."  Girl returned to the ground, Vegeta close behind, and prepared herself for a verbal lashing.  It was amazing how many times Chichi could say the same thing without using the same words!  As she walked off, with Chichi guiding every step, Vegeta watched her.  He thought She would have been a first class soldier if she had been on Vegeta. Of course, she'll never surpass me, but it will be wonderful when I have her as my second in command. If cannot take orders, I must do away with her, though. Too bad, I almost like the brat.

***

Girl sat on the couch, half-listening to her mother and using the rest of her attention to watch Gohan do his homework.  He's further than I am, and he's younger, too!  I would die if I had to work like that at his age!  She realized Chichi was asking her a question and listened.
"Do you understand?  If I see you with either of those men I'll lock you in your room!  And if I even see you in those awful clothes again I'll burn them!"  Chichi was fuming.
"I understand."  That doesn't mean I'll obey!  Girl added silently.
"Good, now go change.  I've put a new dress on your bed, and a few other things you'll like.  Go on now, I want to see you on your dress for dinner."  Chichi shooed Girl to her room.
Girl looked around and found a yellow dress, yellow slippers, yellow bows and white under-things.  I'm supposed to wear all this?!  Girl sighed and began to change.
An hour later, Girl came out of her room feeling like a banana.  Chichi was right in front of her and pulled her to the bathroom.  Girl was forced to stand still while Chichi did her hair into a tower of curls and yellow bows.
Two hours later, Girl and her mother went downstairs to dinner.  It was a big party for the returning "heroes" and lasted much of the night.  She got so hot that she tried to go outside, but if she even got close to a window, Gohan, Bulma, Piccolo, or another person was there immediately.  When Girl finally asked why she couldn't look outside she was promised she would be told later and sent to bed.
When she got to her room, the shutters were locked and a note warned her not to break them.  The writing was obviously Piccolo's so Girl heeded the warning, carefully burnt "the banana dress" to ashes in the garbage can, and went to bed.
As Girl woke the next morning she found another dress.  This one was laid out on her chair.  She groaned; it was pink!  Again, it had bows and slippers to match.  Girl grabbed a white tank top and brown skirt and dressed.  She tied her hair with a brown band and slipped on her boots.  At least it's a dress; Chichi shouldn't freak.
Girl went downstairs and was joined by Gohan and Dende.  "Hi Girl, what're you doing today?  Want to train with me and Piccolo?"  Gohan looked hopeful, but seemed to prepare himself for a letdown.
His sister smiled, "Can we do it away from Chichi?  She says I'm forbidden to fight, wear fighting clothes, or even talk to Piccolo or Vegeta.  Too bad, I enjoyed the challenge of making up comebacks for Vegeta.  He's pretty neat."  Girl refrained from laughing, as Gohan and Dende's eyes grew larger.  They seemed quite scared of Vegeta.
"Well, if Mom says you can't, maybe you shouldn't.  I'll go with just Piccolo."  Gohan started to walk away, but Girl stopped him.
"I'll be with you in a minute.  Let me change.  As long as Chichi 's away."  Girl let her brother go and went into her room.  Gohan and Dende proceeded downstairs.
Inside her room, Girl stuffed a pair of pants and her wristbands into her pack.  She then covered them with her pink dress, slung the pack over her shoulder and went to find Chichi.
Chichi was in the kitchen making breakfast when Girl found her.  She saw right away (obviously) that Girl wasn't wearing the dress and tried to hide her disappointment.  Breakfast was served and eaten, and Girl put her plan in motion.
"Mom, could I go to the mall today?  I want to get some makeup to go with my dress."  She smiled at her mother hoping her face looked innocent enough.
Chichi had a worried look, but it soon was exchanged for a smile.  "If you go with Bulma.  I don't want you by yourself.  I'll go get her."  Before Girl could protest, her mother was gone and back in a few seconds, Bulma right behind.
"I hear you want to shop!  I must say I didn't think we were alike, but I guess I was wrong!  Let's go girl!  Uh, sorry, no pun intended  It's just a phrase-"
"Happens all the time.  Let's go!"  Girl ran outside just in time to run into Vegeta.  "Oh, it's you.  Look I'm in the middle of-"
"How convenient.  I was hoping to find you, child.  Get out of that, thing and come fight."  Vegeta pointed to the skirt like it was possessing Girl.
"She can't.  She's going shopping!  Girl, I'm gonna' leave without you!"  Bulma had come in time to make things worse.
"Follow the car.  I'll be ready to fight as soon as I'm away from Chichi."  Girl mumbled, then got in the vehicle with Bulma.
As they turned the corner from Bulma's house, Girl changed her attitude. "Stop.  We're not going shopping.  Listen to me and I'll explain when we get to where I want to go." Bulma was too surprised to say anything and followed Girl's directions. When they got to a clearing outside of the city, Girl had Bulma park the car and get out. When Girl emerged a minute after, she had exchanged her skirt for pants and wristbands. She explained to Bulma what she was doing and finished when Vegeta came down from the air.
"So are we going to do this sometime this century?" Vegeta was very impatient.
"I have to find Piccolo and Gohan first." Girl began to walk into the forest when Bulma, forgotten by Vegeta's entrance, spoke up.
"I'll go shopping. You owe me though. Should I get you makeup so your mom believes you went with me? I don't usually do this kind of thing, but promise that I can give you a makeover and I'll help you out."
Vegeta laughed and Girl sighed, but she agreed to Bulma's demands. After this, Bulma drove of leaving Girl with Vegeta.
"It's not the best idea to be left alone with someone like him. I hope you've realized that by now." Piccolo and Gohan came out of the woods a few feet away from where Girl was about to enter.
"I believe you're right, but I'm not necessarily someone who has the best ideas. I lived with you, didn't I?" This was one of Girl's favorite games with Piccolo. She was good with putdowns but best at comebacks.
"Let's get to it!  We came to train, right? Hurry up! I don't have all day! Chichi keeps me on a tight leash that gets shorter when I pull. If I give slack it lengthens. That means I have about three hours." Girl got everyone started in a flurry of kicks and punches.
Three hours later, Girl came back to the clearing, her pack over one shoulder. She sat on a rock and searched through pockets until she found the mirror that she kept in it. Gohan held it up as she inspected her face.
"I'm not quite sure how I'll explain my bruises to Chichi. Let's hope I can hide them somehow."
"Yes, hope you can hide them, that will do good, just like hoping to find gold! You must do something to get results. Haven't you learned that?" Vegeta seemed to be pessimistic when things like hope, luck, and love came around.
"Actually, I never did. Not when I decided to find my family, or when I decided to find out if-" Even though no one interrupted, Girl's sarcasm stopped abruptly as she shut her jaw tight with lightning speed and refused to speak.  I almost said I was going to find out if Piccolo took me!  Right in front of him, too!
Within minutes of Girl's sudden silence, Bulma drove up.  "Hey Girl!  I got makeup, when do you want the makeover?"
"Right now.  I can't let Chichi know I've been fighting.  I have one of those dresses in my bag.  It's the pink one.  Start with my hair after I change, or else it'll get in the way."  As she was talking, Girl went behind the vehicle and put on the frilly, pink dress.  When she came back around the car, Bulma's face lit up and, (much to Girl's disgust) Gohan, Piccolo and Vegeta's eyes all grew two sizes.
He didn't know she heard, but Girl caught Gohan mumbling, "If only she weren't my sister!"  She could feel her cheeks grow hot with rage as he spoke, and knew everyone thought she was blushing.
"You guys go ahead so Chichi doesn't suspect anything; we'll catch up."  Girl had no intention of letting her sparring partners see her being poked with brushes and wands.
Silently laughing, Piccolo (who knew Girl's reasoning) led the others back to Capsule Corp., leaving Girl and Bulma alone.
"All ready!  Let's brush out that beautiful hair of yours.  Then we'll-" Bulma was cut off by one of Girl's infamous interruptions.
"Don't tell, just do.  I want to look beautiful, and not let Chichi have the slightest idea I was training."  Girl seated herself on the rock she had used earlier and braced herself for the soft touch of Bulma's hand and the feel of brushes on her face.  For her, this touch was less welcome than any punch she received in battle.
Some hours later, Bulma finished the job.  Girl, who was a natural beauty, looked picture perfect.  (She felt like a little girl's doll, and Bulma was the little girl.)  She stood up and was stopped by Bulma.
"Put these on.  It will be the finishing touch!"  Bulma was holding a pair of lacey stockings and some pink high heels.
Girl groaned.  "Do I have to?  I hate wearing this stuff!"
"Let's convince your mom you really have forgotten about fighting.  These will help a lot."  She did have a point.  Girl gave in and put them on.
When the two finally got in the craft, the sun was getting ready to set.  Girl had taken over an hour to learn how to walk all over again.  Her toes were pinched and her feet ached terribly from being in such stiff shoes, but she could walk like she was floating on a cloud.  The drive to Capsule Corp. was silent, and it wasn't long before she had to replace the heels on her feet and walk to the door of Bulma's house.
Chichi came running outside before Girl got out of the vehicle.  "Oh, Girl!  You look magnificent!  Bulma, you did a wonderful job!  If you two ever feel like going out again, go.  You won't even need to ask!  You've been gone all day; it's time for dinner.  You must be starved, let's eat!"  Chichi ushered them in the door, to the dining room, and into their seats.  Girl had one heck of a time not spilling anything on her dress.
After dinner, Girl went to her room and practically tore her dress off, exchanging it for her skirt and shirt.  The stockings and heels were hidden at the bottom of the trashcan and the dress was sent to the back of the closet.
When that was done, Girl flopped onto her bed, thinking.  What happened that night? It seems like I haven't thought of it for so long!  Should I just ask Piccolo?  No, not until there's no other option.  I need to find out myself.  Unwanted tears formed themselves, but didn't have a chance to spill over her cheeks.  I never cry!  What am I doing?  I have to remember!
The evening went by quickly, and Girl soon found it had grown dark.  She had not been able to think of anything, but had just lied on her bed staring at the ceiling.  When she sat up, she saw the book she had been reading: Romeo and Juliet.  She picked it up and read the last few pages.  When she finished, she got a paper and pen and wrote:

If I could be like Juliet
And use a dagger to end my life,
I think that I would love to be free
Of all my pain and strife.

She stopped there, and signed her name.  Then, she put the paper into the book and left the room thinking, I would love to end my trials, but what about meeting my father, and getting to know my family?  It's not worth it; not right now.
By now, most people had gone to bed so Girl had to be very quiet (not a hard task for her) as she walked down stairs.  Reaching the last step, she heard a noise.  Her sensitive ears strained to hear it again, and achieved their goal.  She followed the sound to outside where it suddenly stopped, then began a minute later.  Someone's crying!
Girl kept to the shadows as she followed the sound to its origin.  It was Gohan!
Gohan saw Girl through teary eyes and tried to stop the river that ran from them.  Unfortunately for him, she had one of their father's confused looks on her face, so the tears broke the dam and flowed freely again.
"What's wrong?  Why are you so upset?  Don't cry Gohan!"  At this point Gohan's tears came stronger than ever; that's what Dad had told him so many times when he was little.  "Warriors don't cry, and you're a warrior.  Stop crying!"  Girl hated to see anyone crying and this was worse than anyone - it was her brother.
"You sound like Vegeta!  Of course warriors cry!  My da-, everyone cries!"  Gohan continued to sob every attempt to stop a failure.
"Maybe so, but they aren't supposed to.  Stop now, and tell me the problem."
"I want Dad.  If he were here, Mom wouldn't be so sad, and everything would be fine!"
Girl sighed.  "At least you've seen him!  Or remember seeing him.  I hardly know a thing about him!  He'll be back, I'm sure we can find a way to bring him home."
Gohan's look was quite skeptical, so Girl changed tactics, "Does it make you sad to see Mom so upset?" Girl was not one for soft words, and was fighting an inner battle between herself, and a kind girl lost years ago.  Even though the latter was stronger, the former seemed to be winning.
"Yes. I've never seen her so sad!  And every time she looks at something or someone she starts crying about how much Dad liked that cup, or how much fun he'd had with that person!  I know we'll find a way to bring him home, I just don't know when, or how, and that makes things hard."  Gohan had finally stopped his crying, but he still sniffed between sentences. He seemed to reflect on what he had said, then continued, "Don't tell anyone Girl, but I think I'm scared that I'll never see him again."  This statement came out almost as a whisper, and hit Girl as hard as Piccolo ever did.  Soon after, Gohan began his silent sobbing.
The little girl finally won.  She reached over hesitantly and hugged her small brother.  After rocking him back and forth for about an hour, his crying stopped and she realized he was asleep.  As one more, small act of kindness, Girl carried Gohan to his bed and went back to her room, sleeping almost before she had rested her head on the pillow.
The next morning Girl woke up much refreshed, yet her feet still ached from wearing heels.  "I'll never do that again!"  She promised herself as she pulled on a white top (as usual), green skirt, and soft, "Piccolo" boots.  After dressing, she brushed her long, black hair, and, instead of a braid or ponytail, put a headband in it.  Then she walked downstairs.
As she was finishing her breakfast, she thought of the night before.  What was I thinking?  I'm not some softy!  I must be losing it  And yet, it felt good to comfort him - Now I know I'm losing it!  She cleared her dish automatically, then sat back down at the breakfast bar.  I need to find out how I got from my house to Piccolo's.  I know that I had a new gown and doll, but when did I get the doll?  Let's see, I was spinning, and I fell over and he caught me, and gave me a huge hug.  Then then  Then he gave me the doll!  "I remember!"  Girl yelled this last thought aloud before she realized what she had done.
"Remember what?"  Unfortunately for Girl, there had been another person in the room.  Even more unfortunately was that it was Vegeta, and he seemed to be quite intent on finding out what she meant.
"Uh, nothing!  Just talking to myself.  Why would you be interested anyway?  I thought you weren't interested in brats like me."  Girl regained her attitude, after being so surprised, but Vegeta saw she was hiding something.
"I don't think you would have been so excited if you had remembered 'nothing,' but I will not bother to make you tell me.  I do have patience; I will wait."  Vegeta got up from his seat as Piccolo walked in.
"Wait for what? Anything you are willing to have patience for must be very important.  I should know that by now, even if I don't know anything else, I know that."
Girl heaved a sigh and shook her head. Why was everyone interested in what she did?  Why couldn't they be interested in what Gohan did? Girl realized she was being spoken to, "Hmm?  What did you say?"
"What did you remember?" Piccolo said in a tone that said he wouldn't leave her alone.
Girl gave another sigh and said, "Why do you want to know?"  She tried to keep from smiling; she loved to do that!
It was Piccolo's turn to sigh.  "I just do. You are going to tell me now. You know what I can  and will  do." Piccolo's growling voice said he meant it. She believed it too. Girl could remember vividly the one time she had disobeyed him. It never happened again.
"I remembered when I got a doll before I lived with you." Girl hoped she seemed uncaring.  If she didn't, this wouldn't work.
"Whatever. I should have known I wouldn't be able to make you budge. I'll talk to you later though." Girl's stomach churned. She hadn't said it as carelessly as she had hoped.
"I, too, will speak to you later."  Girl looked at Vegeta, winced, and looked down. Her life was getting tougher by the second.  When Girl looked up from the carpet she was alone.
When do I get a break?  I hope Chichi doesn't catch on to my fighting.  Time to find Bulma.
Bulma agreed to take Girl to the woods, and pick her up later.  As Girl watched Bulma drive away, she froze.  People were whispering in the trees right next to her.  Girl identified the voices as Piccolo's and  and  It was just Piccolo?  There was another voice, but Girl only sensed one power!  She turned slowly and quietly towards the voices.  They were still talking, so Girl moved to where she could see Piccolo.  He was talking to himself!  It was only muttering under her breath, but half the time he sounded like someone else!  Girl strained to hear him.
"Vegeta seemed interested, so I had to know what he was interested in.  I wonder what she remembered.  There are some things that she will hopefully not remember, for my sake, and for hers.  I don't know if she'd be particularly happy with me if she ever found the truth."
"So you had to butt in?  I understand we need to watch Vegeta, but why do you want to know what she remembered?  What should she not remember?  I think I have a right to know.  I am in your body!"
"I don't think I noticed that." Piccolo said dryly.  "You understand that she is Goku and Chichi's daughter?  Of course you do.  The thing is that I raised her.  She considers me more of family than she does any of her real family.  You know that, too.  I wanted to know what she remembered, because there are things that are better left not remembered!  She would have too hard a time understanding- no, that's not right.  She would understand, but she would refuse to forgive.  I never needed anyone to forgive me before.  I thought I was loose of all that, but her and her brother have me on a leash!  Not so much her as him, but they both have me.  If she didn't forgive me, I don't know what I would do.  She's changed so much too!  Before she clung to my every command.  Now she is more independent  it suits her though.  And who'd have thought she would look like that!  Her hair has grown much longer, and her eyes have always been so big.  I heard Gohan whisper the first time he saw her in a dress.  He said, "If only she weren't my sister!"  She must be very attractive to young boys. I believe I take a father's interest in her.  She's like a small fairy, without wings of course - and much more powerful!  She'll be one deadly opponent when she's fully grown, even more dangerous with her beauty, the men will never suspect that she is so strong, I feel sorry for the first man that tries to take advantage of her."
"Quite a description, let's see if I can sum up.  You did something, and she would hate you terribly if she found out  maybe.  If she did, you would feel horrible, because she is like a daughter to you  if there were such a thing as a daughter on Namek.  You know that the boys are attracted to her, and you know she will be  and is  very deadly.  That did not answer my question.  What should she not remember?  What is it that she wouldn't forgive?"
Girl had been crouching quietly the entire time, concentrating on what Piccolo and the Voice (as she had dubbed it) were saying, and on keeping her power level as low as possible.  Now she tried to inch further towards Piccolo; this is what she had wanted to know!  One more inch, and Girl snapped a twig.  She quickly stood and tried to act innocent.  Too innocent, Piccolo saw right through her trick  as usual.
"What did you hear?  It better not have been much."  The last sentence was more to himself than to her, but Girl agreed to it quickly.
"I only just came up.  What was that other voice?  I see no one with you."
"I am Nail.  I am currently sharing this body with your mentor, Piccolo, and will most likely be for some time.  It is quite interesting for Piccolo to explain how you two are acquainted.  Do not be alarmed when I speak to you.  Everything you tell Piccolo, you tell me, but I cannot speak without him allowing me to."  The last part of Nail's explanation was directed towards Girl's look of horror.  She realized this, and turned it to a scowl that continued to dig deeper down her forehead as she realized that Nail had been present for her and Piccolo's somewhat touching reunion.
"Oh.  I sure hope what he told you was true.  How you trust him enough to be in the same body with him is beyond me, but that's not my business.  I'm not sure why I ever stayed with him, or even how I agreed to go with him in the first place, but I think it's because I have insanity in my family."
Apparently Piccolo had taken over again because he growled and told her to begin stretching out.  Gohan joined them shortly thereafter.
The rest of that day was much like the day before, except Girl didn't dress up as much.  This time she left her hair in a headband, and stayed in her skirt and shirt, but Bulma got to do her makeup again. That night, Girl emerged from her room once, only to get dinner.  She was busy thinking.
This time I'll write it all down.  I was dancing in my nightgown for Goku, and started to spin.  I got dizzy, and Goku caught me.  Chichi was watching from her chair and laughing.  He gave me the doll and picked me up.  Where did he take me?  It's so hard to think.  My head hurts.  I should shut my window before I catch a cold  Cold!  I won't catch a cold, I've lived in a house for about a month and I'm already softening!  I'm a disgrace.  Maybe I should sleep in the tree by my window to remind me what it's like.  Later.  Right now I need to think!  It must have been late, or I wouldn't have had my nightgown on, maybe he was taking me to to to bed!  It must have been.  But I still can't think.  What's that sound?  It sounds like a voice
"Wake-up!  I want to talk to you.  Now!"  At the last command Girl's eyes snapped open.  I can't believe I fell asleep!  Girl felt sick.  It was Vegeta.  She had avoided his questions all day but now now he had her cornered.  She sighed  she seemed to do that a lot lately  and looked at him giving him the attention he so often demanded.
 "What did you remember?"
"I already answered that. I'm not lying. You should know that, oh, wait, maybe you wouldn't. After all, you are, incompetent at times."
Bad move. In a flash of speed, Vegeta had her in a hold she had never encountered. She was positioned with her face inches away from his and her arms unexplainably twisted in front of her. He was standing on her feet with his heavy, space boots, and there was no way to free herself. Her arms became numb in seconds, and Vegeta had complete advantage.  "Now, why would this doll be so important?"  Girl gulped but didn't answer.
"Tell me, child! I will not tolerate this. Tell me now."
"I'm trying to remember how I left my house and met Piccolo.  I want to be able to prove to Chichi that he didn't take me."
Vegeta's laugh was cruel.  "Is that it?  Oh, that's funny!  You actually think he wouldn't take you from your family?  We don't get along, but we are quite alike.  I assure you, he is quite capable of taking a small child from its family.  From what I heard, that's what he did to your brother to prepare him for my coming.  You are a strange kid.  I'll tell you that."  Vegeta shifted his hold on her 'til he held both her hands in one of his, then he grabbed her chin with his free hand and forced her to look into his eyes.  For a terrifying moment Girl could do nothing; for once in her life she was completely helpless, and she hated it.
Vegeta smiled evilly as he saw the fear in her eyes, then realized there was something else there, hate?  Yes, there was hate, but something more.  What was she thinking?  Vegeta saw clearly what it was and, replacing his smirk with surprise, immediately released Girl.  He then regained his composure and scowled at her.  "Don't cross me.  You've been given a demonstration of my power.  You should also understand, by now, that I am the most powerful being in the universe since Kakkarot and Freiza are dead.  Know that, and do not anger me, and I might let you serve me."  He turned his back to Girl and left the room like a King leaving a peasant.
"'Don't cross me.'  I'll cross you all I want."  Girl said defiantly.  "As long as you never make me look into yours eyes again."  She added this more thoughtfully. His eyes were not something she wanted to think about at all. She had been so close, and he could've killed her so easily. For once, Girl wouldn't have minded admitting that she had been scared.
Looking at the clock, Girl realized she should go to sleep, so she slipped into some sweats and her favorite CTR nightshirt (Thanks Elder Kenneth Pike! - Mormons will understand), opened her window, and crawled into the tree just outside.  She stared at the cloudy sky for a while, just thinking.  I hate Vegeta!  I have never felt so scared or so helpless in my life! And that other feeling? I hate him, and I fear him, but at the same time I I actually admire him! He's so powerful! I don't' blame him for being like he is. I'm sure I'd treat people the same way I'm confused! I'll just leave this to puzzle out tomorrow. And indeed, she did.

     ***
Vegeta sat on the bed in the room he had been given.  There was something about that girl that had him very confused.  How can you hate and admire someone at the same time?  That girl is sure something.  She is almost twelve, and more powerful than many Saiyans at eighteen!  The green man must have pushed her hard, and I doubt she's ever powered up fully.  She seems very in control of her feelings  like her mentor.  I wonder what would happen if I angered her?  I've always loved to test myself.  I'm sure I'd still be stronger, but then I would know her true power.  Vegeta smiled to himself.  I can't wait to find out.

     ***
The next day, Girl spent all her energy on training and convincing Chichi she wasn't training.  Other tasks she was required to finish - like homework - were almost forgotten until Chichi would force her to sit down and do them. That night, Girl sat in her room and thought about days past long ago.  Her notes became longer and longer, but she never seemed to get to the bottom of the mystery.  While reading over her paper she remembered something important. Piccolo said that I would hate him forever if I found out. Does this mean that he? No! He wouldn't do that. Piccolo himself said that he cared for me like a father. If he did, he wouldn't take me from my family. A taunting voice in the back of her mind said, Yes he would. He didn't care about you when he took you. Only after did he begin to care for you, and even then he never showed that he did.  All you need to know is why. Why did he take you from your family? I'm sure it wasn't because he wanted a powerful kid to be proud of! Think Girl. Think about it. Girl sighed and rubbed her temples, He also said that I would understand why. What's that supposed to mean? That I would understand after he explained to me?  Or that I would understand why he did what he did if I knew what he did?  That's too much to think about! Let's see what I have on my paper. I was dancing for Goku, and started to spin. I got dizzy and he caught me. He gave me the doll and carried me to bed.  Chichi was sitting in a chair the whole time watching, and she smiled and laughed a lot. What happened after that? I got into bed and closed my eyes. I must have fallen asleep then. What happens next? Girl went to the next page and looked over it. After that I'm with Piccolo! It has to be that night that I leave the house! It couldn't be Piccolo though!  A voice came to her as she spoke, "I assure you, he is quite capable of taking a small child from its family." Vegeta! Was he telling the truth? I shouldn't believe him, but I do. I do! He did take Gohan. Chichi and Gohan tell me the same story, but he couldn't have taken me! There was no one threatening the world then. Why did he take me? With her last thought, Girl realized she no longer questioned if Piccolo had taken her. Somehow, she had always known the truth, hadn't been able to admit it. She thought about it for a moment, and found that she was angry with him! There had never been a point in her life that she had ever been angry at Piccolo, but now she was. She was not angry because he had taken her; on the contrary, she was quite pleased he had saved her from being a prim and proper little girl with some funny name.  Girl was angry because he had never told her she had been kidnapped, and because he had never told her why.  He would pay for the confusion and years of wandering he had caused.  Why did he take me?  Complete sorrow suddenly matched the amount of her anger.  She loved Piccolo.  As far as she was concerned he was her father.  As much as she was angry he had never told her, she was just as sad for the same reason.  When Girl fell asleep, her dreams turned to nightmares and she received little rest.
Girl woke much later than usual and berated herself for sleeping in.  Bad dreams are no excuse for sleeping in; I should have gone to bed earlier, too.  She sat up in her bed to find someone in her room.  She fought to control her anger and fear as Vegeta stood and walked towards her.
"I thought you got up much earlier."  His voice was mocking; Girl worked hard at keeping calm.
"People sleep in at times.  What difference does it make to you?  I'm sure you have better things to do than wait for me to wake.  So, what are you doing in my room?  Are you here to tell me 'Good morning'?  If so, your presence ruins your words.  How can I have a good morning if you are here?"  Girl tried to sound nonchalant but couldn't.  She wanted to know why Vegeta was in her room, and what he was doing.  Every muscle in her body tensed, ready to fight.  Only the reasonable side of her thoughts kept her from attacking, and that wasn't much.
"And why can't I be in here to tell you that?  You're much too harsh on me, Girl; I'm hurt that you don't like me!"  His voice was hard and more mocking than before.  The smirk that crossed his face made Girl want to scream.
"What do you want?  If Chichi comes up here, everything will be ruined!  Hurry up!"  The little patience Girl had tried to hold flew out the window and she jumped out of bed, into a fighting crouch.  She no longer paid attention to her sensible thoughts, which commanded her to calm.  All of her focus was on Vegeta, watching for a sign of attack.
"Oh goody!  A fight!  I knew you wouldn't be able to control yourself.  Your Saiyan blood is screaming demand for a battle, and that is what it will get.  Are you sure you want to do it right now though?  You're hardly awake, still in your nightclothes, and not even stretched out!  I will give you time, if you want it."  Girl's temper raged as he spoke, each word making her clench her teeth a little harder.  "No?  Very well, you've had your chance, now you must learn the lesson.  I will tell you now I won't kill you.  I want to be able to rule over you and send you to fight when I don't feel like getting my fingers dirty.  You could be my second in command, you know; but if being my boot shiner fits you better  Well, enough of that, conquering the universe will wait until I am immortal.  Let's find somewhere with more room, you wouldn't want me to ruin your desk, would you?  Let's not forget about your mommy too.  What would she say if she saw you fighting?  I thought she didn't control you.  I must be wrong."
Girl was now angry enough to have fried an egg on her head; she quivered with energy as she replied.  "No one controls me except for me!  We will fight in the yard behind here where my mother will see that she cannot keep me from what I want to do.  As for your gracious offer of second command, or boot shining, that will happen when pigs like Oolong can beat me no handed!"  Girl's rage made every word that came from her a little bit louder until she was yelling.
Vegeta was obviously quite amused with this last comment and didn't bother to hide it.  "As you say."  He then motioned to the window meaning for Girl to go out it, but she refused.
"I'll never turn my back to you."  She waited for Vegeta to argue, but he didn't.  He went out the window and flew down to the ground.  Girl followed, tucking in her nightshirt so it wouldn't get in the way.  Her hatred for Vegeta grew when she realized he was looking at her with a smile on his face.  He thinks I'm some poor little girl, and I don't know what I'm doing!  I'll show him.
My plan is working perfect!  She's almost up to her power limit.  I wonder how long she'll last against me  I'll start out easy on her.  No use killing her, she's too good to waste.  Vegeta watched the lithe form fly from the window to the ground and ready herself for battle.  Does she even suspect my power?  I showed how fast I could be once, but she was unprepared.  I will find out in just a moment though.
Vegeta left his thoughts for another time as Girl came flying at him.  The series of blocks and hits that came soon after were not as fast as they had been in their first duel.  Each of the opponents tested for weak spots, searched for slowness, and waited for a too slow block or recover.  Only after both retreated for the second time did a crowd start to gather.  Master Roshi, Gohan, Piccolo, and Dende were the first to see the fighters, and then more people started to gather to watch the match.  Neither Girl nor Vegeta paid any heed to them, and everyone seemed to understand that it was their fault if they got hurt.
Girl was trying to keep her temper as she blocked several of Vegeta's quick, strong blows.  Realizing she had almost lost it completely in her room, Vegeta's trick to anger her was beginning to uncover.  How dare he do that!  I'm sure he wanted to see my maximum power.  Girl smiled.  If he wants it, I'll give it to him!  She pushed her power up a few notches and worked at fighting even harder.  It was not easy; her face was covered in sweat just beginning to drip into her eyes, and a small cut on her forehead added to it.  Seeing a split second opening, she took a chance and, with lightening quick reflexes, landed a hard blow to Vegeta's stomach.  While he was recovering, she alternated between his head and stomach with harsh punches, each one pushing him back a bit further, his feet leaving shallow, dirt trenches where they tore up grass. She began to gather Ki, when Vegeta moved like lightning.
As fast as Girl was, she was not prepared for Vegeta's sudden bombardment of punches and kicks.  He was waiting for this!  Girl was stuck to defense as the attack continued, her eyes watched for any other surprise moves, but she was too late.  In a flash of movement Vegeta was behind her and had a firm grip on both her tail and hair; the battle was over.
"I did ask if you wanted to take some time to cleanup before you did this.  It was your choice not to.  Ah, well I believe this battle is over.  You should find your mommy in this crowd," he said mockingly, "just look for the rising steam that is pouring from her."  With that, Vegeta had gone.
"I should have known he'd do that!  Why did I ever let him get under my skin?  I'll never learn, will I?"  Although speaking to herself, she got an answer.
"No, you never will.  It's because you're you.  I would fall down dead of a heart attack if I ever saw you keep someone from getting under your skin."  It was Piccolo, and he was right.
"How can you have a heart attack if you don't have a heart?"  Girl muttered but Piccolo heard and grinned broadly.  Then winced as a scream came from the back of the departing crowd.  "You'll have to excuse me, Girl.  I think you must handle this battle on your own.  You seemed to do well enough earlier today."  Just like Vegeta, Piccolo was quickly gone.
Shortly after Piccolo's departure, a furious Chichi came up to Girl.  "HOW DARE YOU GO AGAINST MY DEMANDS?  DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW BADLY YOU COULD HAVE BEEN HURT?!"  (The crowd departed much more quickly now.)  "YOU WILL GO TO YOUR ROOM UNTIL I TELL YOU TO COME OUT.  ALL OF YOUR MEALS WILL BE EATEN IN THERE. NO ONE WILL ENTER WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. GET ALL OF YOUR 'FIGHTING' THINGS AND PUT THEM BY THE DOOR.  I'M BURNING THEM!"  Chichi stamped off into the house without looking back, but Girl knew she had another verbal lashing coming.
Up in her room, Girl found all of her training suits and other fighting paraphernalia, stuck all but a few, too small suits into one of her traveling packs, and hung it in the tree outside her window.  She then closed the shutters and the window, and placed the remaining suits by the door. Going to her closet to check if anything was in there (she usually put her training things in a drawer) she almost screamed and jumped backwards.  "Gohan!  What in the world are you doing?  I'm not supposed to have anyone in here!"
"I know.  I could hear Mom from the stairs inside.  I need to talk to you."  He stepped out of the closet and opened his mouth when a knock interrupted him.  He sighed and hid at the back of the closet.
Chichi walked in the room, ready to chew her daughter out, "I can't believe you did that!  I was so sure you had forgotten about fighting.  Apparently not!  Whatever happened to my sweet little girl?  You were so sweet and obedient!  Now you're as rude as those awful aliens are!  How could you disobey me like that?" Chichi went on for a few minutes and Girl listened for her to take a breath.
"Mom.  You can't keep me from doing what I want to do!  If I told you that you couldn't wear dresses or clean house and that you had to be a fighter, what would you say?"
"I would tell you that daughters don't make the rules for their parents!"
"What if I was the mom?"
"I would do as you said."
"HAH!  I believe that like I believe Vegeta being in my room because he wanted to say 'Good morning, Girl!'"
"HE WAS IN HERE? BEFORE YOU WOKE UP?" Chichi lowered her voice a little, but it was no less venomous. "That man is going to get it!  I'm "
"Mother!  My point is that if you loved to clean house and wear dresses, you wouldn't give it up.  It's exactly opposite of me.  I love what you hate.  You love what I hate.  You will not give up dresses and cleaning.  I will never give up marshal arts.  I do not tell you that you cannot clean.  You will not tell me that I cannot fight.  If we keep those rules everything will be fine."  Girl was on the edge of her patience, and every word was harder to say without yelling.  "I put my suits by the door but you don't know if that's all of them.  Even if it were, I would make more.  There is no way you can keep me from fighting.  It is the life I was raised in, and I will not change my life, not even for my own mother."  Girl watched her mother's face as she spoke.  After it had turned many different shades of red, she was surprised Chichi hadn't said anything.
"I understand what you are saying.  However, you deliberately disobeyed me!  I will not allow you to get away without a punishment.  You are not allowed to speak or see anyone but Bulma, and me.  When you are caught up with your schoolwork, you will be allowed to come downstairs.  At that time, I will assign you a sewing project at the beginning of each week, and it must be done by the end of the week. If you are able to complete four sewing projects in the right amount of time, I will let you go out on Saturdays to, to train."
"You expect me to agree to that? I agree to catch up on homework, and the sewing projects, but I will go out to 'train' whenever I please, even before I catch up on homework. And I will speak and see anyone I wish!"
Chichi began to take up a hard tone again. "I did not ask you. I told you. If you want to fight, you will do so when I say you can! If-"
"Goodbye! I'm leaving and not coming back! I did not go looking for my mother so she could change my life!"  Walking towards the window, Girl reached to open it and fell to the floor with a loud thud.
Gohan had jumped out from the closet and was now sitting on his sister. "You can't go! I won't let you! Even if I have to chain you to me! I've just gotten used to you being here - even if you do act like Vegeta a lot - and you're not leaving!"
Turning so she could see her brother's face, she found he wasn't crying as she had expected, but he had a look of grim determination. Her mouth split into a wide grin, and she said, "And leave you with her?  I wouldn't do anything so horrible to my only brother!"
Gohan frowned then, "She's not bad. I think she's better than Piccolo, but how can you compare the two? They're completely different. Now that I think about it, depending on what kind of person you are, and what you're used to makes a big difference. I'm used to Mom, so she doesn't bug me. With Piccolo, it took me a little while to get used to him, but I like him as well. Why can't you like both Mom and Piccolo, like me?"
"Because she wasn't raised by me. If she had lived with us, then with Piccolo for a short time, then with us again, she might like us both. Since Piccolo raised her and then she lived on her own, she's not used to following orders. When Piccolo told her to do things, she knew those things would help her become stronger, so she followed. Now I want her to do things, that won't make her stronger and she won't do them." Girl had almost forgotten Chichi was in the room. Now she looked at her with surprise.
"Is that it?" Gohan asked.
"I'm not sure. All I know is that I don't like what she wants me to do. If I don't like something, I don't do it. With Piccolo, I liked what he told me to do. I also remember the time I didn't do what he told me to do, and didn't want a repeat of the experience."
"I know what you mean!" Gohan muttered. Girl had to laugh.
"Hey, speaking of Piccolo, I was supposed to come up here and tell you to talk with him. He said he wanted to talk to you away from everyone. Wanna' come?"
"Of course!  How could I turn that down? There're some things I need to talk to Piccolo about, too. When do I go?"
At this Gohan hemmed and hawed. "I was supposed to get you before Mom could pass judgment, but I guess I was late."
Both children looked at their mother expectantly. She was staring at the two of them, her eyes wide, and her face more than just pale. "You both look so much like your father, especially when you beg. That's the face he always used to get me to do something.  Now you want to go off somewhere with that  with Piccolo. If Gohan goes then you may also. Go before I change my mind."  She stood up and walked out of the room.
For a few moments, Chichi's children stared after their mother, both not believing what they had seen and heard. "She'll never cease to amaze me!" Girl lightly pushed her brother off of her, and grabbed her bag for the trip. She didn't want anyone taking it while she was gone.
"He said you'd know where to find him, Girl. I'm not sure what he meant, but he told me he'd be waiting in the forest, by the house."
"The Forest? Are you sure? And The House? Just what is he planning?" The last question was more to herself, so didn't expect an answer.
"We'll find out when we get there. Lead the way, Girl." Gohan broke Girl's thoughts up as he pushed her.
"Well, since we're going right past it, I want to visit some friends before we meet Piccolo. Is that okay?"
Girl took her brother outside and led him out of town to a little hill. She knocked on the side of it and, to Gohan's surprise, a door opened!
"Girl!  Wha' a surprise!  I thought you weren' comin' back!  When you said you were goin' t' find a fam'ly, I was sure I'd never see you ag'n.  You realize it's no' worth it?"  A boy about Gohan's age with a filthy face and messy hair had poked his head out of the hidden door.
"Nope. Found 'em.  This is me bro. Gohan.  You lettin' me in 'r wha'?"  Girl's usual nice and clear speech became slurred and slang.  The shock almost blew Gohan away.
"O' course! Why'd I not?  Please t' meetcha'!  I'm Mole.  Th' keeper of this 'ere gate t' th' unner' groun's."  Mole held out a dirty hand to when they walked into the dusty tunnel, then seeing how clean his was, quickly stuck it back in his pocket.  "Sorry 'bout that."
To break the silence, Girl explained why she had come. "I was passin' by so's I come t' visit Boss. Get 'im to come t' me soon." Mole nodded and left the visitors in the tunnel.
"Why do you talk so funny with him?"  Gohan spoke out.
"That's how they talk.  They'd think I'd been possessed if I spoke correctly.  I used to speak like them, before I went to school. Piccolo always told me to shut-up, so I never talked to him and got into some bad habits, even though he talks properly."  Girl had a look in her eye that said she was remembering something.
The two stood in the passage for quite some time, each thinking very deeply.  Suddenly a boy appeared from behind a corner.  "Girl!  Mole said it was you, but I didn't believe him.  How're you doing?  Like my talk?  I was spying on some people, and followed them.  I ended up in school.  Can you believe that?  Me in school!  Well, at least one of us has stayed the same.  Other than looking a bit more filled out, you look just the same.  But then, you're one who'll never change."
"Are you so sure about that?  I might be the exact same person outside, but on the inside, who knows?  I've found my family, and I, too, went to school.  We both seem to have changed a great deal.  I regret only being able to stay a short time, but we were just passing through.  I would love to stay longer, but I wouldn't be able to, Piccolo is waiting for us."  Girl emphasized Piccolo's name, and the boy's eyebrows rose tremendously.
"Him again?  But why would you stick to him if you found your family?"
"He knows my family.  It's hard to explain.  This will confuse you more than it will help, but my father is Goku."  Girl no longer paid attention to anyone but the boy.
"The Goku?"  The boy whistled when Girl nodded.
"Hello?  Do you two remember me?  Hi.  I'm Gohan."  Gohan had finally pulled his courage together to make sure he wasn't forgotten.  He didn't really like how the boy kept looking at Girl.
"Oh, hi there.  I'm Boss.  At least that's what they call me.  Sometimes it's hard to remember that it's not really my name.  Ever since you left, Girl, no one has called me by my real name."  Boss looked back at Girl, and she blushed.
"You stop that!  Always teasing me.  Why don't you go pick a pretty flower out of your garden?  There are many much prettier than I am, waiting for you to come and pick them."  Gohan's mouth dropped as his sister spoke. She's actually acting like a girl!  Flirting - that's definitely not the same person I was with a few minutes ago!
"There are, it's true, but I would rather have a rare and genuine daisy than the common roses I see every day.  Come, I'll show you where you can sit and talk for a bit."  Boss led them down the passage Mole had run down, and turned a sharp corner.  As the others followed, the dirt became brick; they were in an old sewer pipe!
Boss led them further and further through the tunnels, never hesitating for a moment when several tunnels joined.  Finally, he stopped at a hole covered with a blanket.
"It's my private quarters. I have the biggest one, so it'll fit all of you."  Boss started to walk off, then stopped and turned around to face them.  "I'd like to talk to you alone, Girl.  Tell me a time so I don't miss you."
"Right now."  Girl walked to Boss, and they sat right where they were, whispering.
Girl watched Gohan scowl, and walk into the room before she grabbed Boss's shirt.  "What do you think you were doing?  That boy is my brother!  I would have told you, but all that poetry knocked me off my feet!"
"It was supposed to.  I'm getting too old to enjoy being 'Boss' in this dump.  I want to see the real world.  I want you to come with me.  I can watch myself easily, but it'd be ten times easier if you came.  I was sure flattering you would do the trick.  Too bad you have those two with you, else I would have convinced you for sure."  Boss smiled as his friend's face turned a faint red.
"Too old? Most times a Boss waits until they're fifteen. How in the world can you be too old?" Girl released his shirt and stood to leave.
"I am fifteen.  I just look eleven because of living down here.  You were only with us for a little while, and you could take care of yourself just fine.  Did you ever know that Alicia is fourteen?  Or that Sandra is fifteen? Mole and I are the only boys you know, so I won't tell you about them."  Boss looked at Girl, and quickly turned away.  He would rather die a thousand deaths than watch Girl cry; she would do something much more painful to him than let him die.
"I see.  If I hadn't been with my brother, you would have gotten me to go with you.  I'm sorry I can't help.  I've found my family, and I don't want to lose them.  My mother is a pain, but I've never seen my father, and there are things I need to find out.  Someday I'll come back, but I can't stay now. I'm sorry, Scott." This was a difficult decision  Scott and she had always planned to adventure together  but she had to make it. "Get Sandra and Alicia for me, please?" Drying her eyes, Girl went to her brother.
"How does she do that?!  She's not even trying and she knocks me off my feet.  She'll be one dangerous chick when she's older!"  Scott started to walk down the hall when he heard Girl's melodic voice yell her protest of being called a chick.  He smiled, remembering her sensitive hearing, and walked away.
A little later, Girl and Gohan got up and readied their things for traveling.  Mole came back and took them to the hill entrance, telling them the whole way how sorry he was to see them go.  It wasn't long before the two travelers were out in the open.
"Now let's fly the rest of the way.  Follow me, and don't fall behind!"  Girl took off into the air.
When they landed, Girl looked like she had come home.  (For, indeed, she had!)  "We're here!  It's been a while since I've been this close to home!  This is The Forest, where I first met Piccolo."  Girl turned to look at Gohan.
"This is the forest by my house!"  Gohan exclaimed.  "I play in these trees all the time!"
"Of course.  The House  I mean your- our house is right down there.  Let's get moving."  Girl walked to the house, and found Piccolo sitting against the wall, waiting.
"I thought you be here sooner."  He said calmly.
"We stopped to see some of my friends!"  Girl snapped.  Her face had turned red for an instant, but it returned to its normal color quickly.
"Oh.  Either way, I'm sure you have questions for me.  I won't answer them now, but some other time.  Let's stretch out now." Piccolo stood to remove his cape and turban.
The day went by as a blur, and soon night had fallen.  Piccolo walked into the forest, telling the children to stay in the house, and was soon gone.
Girl sat in a large rocking chair by the fire, letting memory wash over her.  She thought of everything that she could remember, except one thing.  Whenever her mind drifted to The Night when she disappeared from her home, she quickly thought of something else. She wasn't happy that Piccolo had left them without talking. When it was near impossible to not think of that night, she got up and walked around.  Gohan followed her.
"What are you doing?" he asked.
"I'm exploring and seeing what I can remember.  It's been a long time since I lived here.  I wonder if I can find my old room."  Girl replied absentmindedly.
"Oh.  Could I help?"  Gohan asked.
"No, I don't think you'd help much."
"But-"
"Shouldn't you go to bed?"
"Listen!"  Gohan cried.
"Fine!  What do you want?"  Girl gave in to her brother's protests.
"There's a room next to Mom's that I've never been in.  I'm forbidden to.  Mom goes in there everyday to clean, but she won't let me help.  Maybe that's your room."  For being so young, Gohan seemed to know a great deal.
"Show me the way."
"It's right down here.  I shouldn't go in; I don't want to break the rules.  You have to go alone."
Girl hesitated for a moment, then reached for the doorknob.  Her hand touched the cold metal, and turned it slowly.  It seemed like an eternity!  The hinges creaked as she pushed the door forward and closed her eyes.  When she opened them, she was looking at her room

***

"Girl?  Are you okay?  Girl, wake up!  Hello?  Wake up!"
Girl felt a sharp pang in her cheek and was on her feet in seconds.  She looked around, ready for an attack when she saw Gohan against the wall, shaking.  "S-s-s-soorry!  D-d-d-o-on't b-b-be m-m-mad!  You w-w-wouldn't wake up!"
Girl sighed and relaxed.  "It's alright.  I would most likely have done the same thing!  Now, I'm going into that room, and you should go to sleep.  Goodnight, Gohan."  Girl waited until Gohan was in is room, then turned to her old one.  "I can't believe I fainted!  It's just a room!  Let's just go back in there."  Girl walked into the room and sat down, hard.  "She left it the exact same way!  There's my shoes, and my little bed, with the sheets all wrinkled from me sleeping, and, and  Oh!  The window!  It's not there!  The glass is - gone!  I remember this room! My toys are out and - oh dear! I can't take this!" Girl got up to leave the room, and looked at one of the walls. Her closet stood a tiny bit open.  "I wonder" she murmured, and walked to it.  When she opened one of the doors, her eyes met a dozen of tiny dresses, all in pretty little girl colors of pink, red, purple, and yellow.  The second door opened revealing Piccolo.
"You just love to hide in closets, don't you?  You and Gohan both.  I wonder how long it will take for me to cure you of that!"  Girl was not pleased that Piccolo had watched her faint.
"It was necessary.  I wondered if you would remember after seeing your room, but I wanted to be sure. Too bad you're smart enough to check closets.  I'll remember that."  Piccolo stepped out of the closet into the room. He stood there just staring at her for a moment, then asked, "Do you know?"
Girl's reply was a bit hesitant, but she answered truthfully.  "Yes. It didn't take me long to suspect, but I kept convincing myself I was being silly, that you wouldn't do that.  Did you?"
Piccolo spoke reluctantly, "Yes.  I'm sure you'll hate me for this, but I cannot lie to you."  He smiled then.  "I never spoke to anyone and considered them a friend.  Even when you lived with me I thought of you as  Never mind that though.  You have me in a situation I have always been able to avoid, and I cannot lie to you.  Even if it means you'll hate me."
"I don't hate you!  Sure, it was hard, but I'm glad I didn't end up wearing things like those my whole life!"  Girl pointed to the closet like it was a monster.  "I think that even though I denied it, I knew you had taken me.  I just want to know why.  Why did you do it?  A few days ago I heard you talk to Nail.  I heard that you thought I would hate you, and that you hoped I never remembered.  What made you change your mind?"
"One question at a time.  I'll take the second one first.  Nail spoke to me and made me see that it was just causing me more trouble by not letting you know.  I was delaying the inevitable.  I hate to make this confession, but I was scared of what would happen. I really was scared.  He gave me the idea, and I couldn't go back on it.  As for your first question, let's take that in pieces.  The simplest answer is that I wanted to train you.  There are problems in that; why would I train my enemy's daughter?  I did want to train you after certain things happened, but that was not the first reason I took you.  You know that Goku and I have been enemies for a long time.  At one point he was paying so much attention to you, that I realized it would be easy to defeat him.  I decided that if I took you, he would follow me and I would be able to destroy him.  Once I had taken you from your home, you woke up and kicked me in the stomach.  I was so surprised that I dropped you, and you began to demand you be taken home.  After I tried to grab you a few times - of course I wasn't really trying  you backed into a tree and, after realizing you were stuck, stood up and told me to take you home.  You looked so funny that I started laughing.  I have never laughed at you since!  You never did like being laughed at.  Anyway, you kicked me in the shins, and continued to power up.  After a fight, you began to tire out, and I got you under control.  You were so powerful when you were angry that I decided to keep you with me.  My reasoning was that after Goku was dead, there wouldn't be any challenge in taking over the world, so I had better have something to do.  It all worked out anyway because Goku never even guessed that I had taken you.  My original plan had failed, and I had a better one.  'What if,' I thought, 'when I fight Goku, I bring her out? Would he realize she is his daughter?  What would he think if I told him that then asked her who he was?  I would love to see his face when she would say he was her enemy and mine!'  Things sure have changed.  I know that I will never have as much power as Goku.  You should have been on Namek with us.  We could have used a little more help, but you should have seen Goku fight!  When Freiza killed Krillan, Goku turned Super Sayian.  His power was like nothing I had ever encountered!  I wonder when he'll be back."
Girl had listened silently to Piccolo's reasoning, not really surprised, but very much awestricken.  Before she knew it, she was sitting on the bed, staring up at Piccolo with her mouth open.  "That's why?  I never imagined!  When I even" Girl trailed off and replaced her look for one with less emotion.  "That's it.  My whole story right in front of me.  There's only one thing left to do with this whole mess."
"Don't say you're going to tell Chichi.  That would be the biggest mistake.  Especially after that thing with Vegeta, it would be a bad idea to explain things to Chichi.  She would take it the wrong way, and things would be worse than they all ready are!"
"Do you think I'm stupid?  Of course I won't tell Chichi  at least, not right now.  This whole time, I haven't seen Goku or even had any type of contact with him.  I need to meet him, and talk to him about all of this.  Once he knows, he can tell Chichi.  I wonder what he'll think of me?"  Girl's last question was to herself, but she received an answer.
"I know he was happy to have a girl with your beauty for a daughter, and he loves the marshal arts.  I believe that when he sees his daughter, more beautiful than ever, and more skill in her than he could imagine, he be smiling so brightly you'll have to cover your eyes!  I'm sure he never imagined his daughter being a skilled fighter and he'll love it all the more."
"Maybe," Girl said hesitantly, "but I don't know.  I don't even know if I like him.  You always described him as being too soft, and weak.  Now you say you'll never defeat him.  Will he defeat you?  What would he do if I chose you over him?"
"I don't think that you will.  Even if you did, he would not force you, like your mother does.  Goku would beg and plead for you to stay.  If you would not agree he would nod his head, and walk away.  If he ever fights me again, he would win, but he would not kill me. He has always been like that.  He always will be like that.  Even with Freiza, he warned him and offered him freedom.  It is his nature."
"Whatever.  I don't really understand all this, but I'll believe you.  I need to get to sleep. Anything else I should know?"
"You can leave when you want.  I just needed to get this all over with.  Unless it's Goku, you aren't going to tell anyone about this.  He might understand things, but everyone else would think I was being soft.  I'm not sure how Nail talked me into this, but he did.  Get your rest."  Piccolo walked out into the hall, and a few minutes later Girl heard him shut the front door.
"What will I do now?  I can't really see anyone until I've thought things through.  Piccolo was not being himself when he did that; he even admitted he was scared to tell me!  After that I'm not sure if I can look at him for a while.  He was acting so weird!  I think he really scared me by just giving in and talking!  That's the most I've ever heard him say at one time.  I can't see Gohan; I would blab to him.  Where can I go?  I don't want to be all alone."  Girl thought of every place possible, and could only come up with one solution: She had to go back underground.  Scott wouldn't understand, but he wouldn't care either.  If Piccolo's nice to me, good.  If he's not, that's how he's always been.  I could tell him everything, and he would say nothing to anyone but me.  He would be kind to me, and I have always been welcome underground.  I had better leave now, and leave a note.
Girl got up from the bed, and using a pencil and paper from the small desk in the room, she wrote a note telling Gohan she had gone to think things out, and he could go home any time.  He shouldn't expect her back for a while.  If Goku returned, Gohan was to take him to "The Hill" they had been at the other night.  When she finished, Girl jumped out the empty window and headed off.
A shadow rippled on the side of the house as Piccolo stepped out of it.  He had suspected she would leave.  Hopefully it wasn't for good.  She had always been good at concealing her feelings.  Had she been pretending not to be mad?  Piccolo tried to tell himself that he shouldn't care if she was mad, but he had grown attached to her and her brother, and he really did care.

Yes, I still have the dresses, make-up and other things you gave me. I don't have it with me, but I have it. If you want any more out of me, ask me later. I've had a long day and I intend to get some rest."  Girl motioned for Scott, Sandra, and Alicia. The other girls knew to back off, and did.
"It's a very long story to tell, so I won't. I will say that I need to think some things over and that's why I'm here. While I'm here I might as well help with 'children chores' and the like. It will keep me from being too intent on thinking. Is that okay, Alicia and Sandra?" Girl had hardly finished her sentence before she received an answer.
"I don't know why you bother to ask.  Boss has already given you permission and you've been here before. I'm glad you're staying with us for while." Alicia, being a faster talker, always got her say in before Sandra did, but it didn't matter because they usually wanted to make the same point.
"As for not having any dresses, we'll make you another. I love making dresses! We just finished a big job that paid for lots of fabric so there won't be a problem." Sandra added to Alicia's welcome.
"Okay, I guess so. But I want to choose the design, color and all-" Girl discovered how annoying it was to be interrupted and promised herself she would try not to do it to others.
"I will do everything for it. You will do what I say. Come with me now and I'll get you measured." Sandra grabbed Girl by the wrist and tried to pull, but found she was pulling a boulder  Girl wouldn't budge. "Dang! I forgot how strong you are. Please come with and we'll work together to get you dress. Okay?"
"I will agree to that. I've just had a difficult time with my mother and 'proper' dresses so I'm a bit touchy."
Girl, Sandra, and Alicia walked off to another tunnel and Scott watched them go. "I wish I could see her in one of those dresses her mom made her. Too bad she's only twelve, or close to it.  She acts at least fourteen, and she doesn't know it but she knocks me off balance every time I see her!" Scott shook his head and sighed as he returned to his room.

In another part of the underground home, Girl was being fitted for her dress. Alicia was measuring her muscular arms and Sandra was drawing a sketch of what the dress would look like.
"I'll make it short sleeved, a wide neckline, it should have a cloth belt, and I'll have it come to just above the knee" Sandra paused to look at Girl. "Loose! I'll make a headband that matches, and you'll wear your hair loose! It'll look gorgeous! We'll get you some shoes-"
"I'll keep the ones I have, thanks." Girl put in stubbornly, looking at her shoes. Something was different about her friends.
"Okay, we won't get you shoes. Let's choose the fabric now." Alicia had finished her measurements and took over. "You have a green one  I know because I made it  brown isn't quite right, let's try dark blue!"
"With that silverish material for the belt and headband!" Sandra added, then turned to Girl, "Please let me make slippers."
"I guess so. Go ahead and start." The two girls got to work as soon as Girl finished the first of her two sentences. She lied down on pile of material to watch, and fell asleep.

***

Girl woke up a bit stiffer than usual, but otherwise okay. She found her new outfit lying next to her and quickly put it on. Other than the colors, it was almost exactly like her favorite green dress. The difference was the silver thread (used to match the belt) that was used to sew the entire thing together. She had to admit, Alicia and Sandra had wonderful taste for clothing! Girl brushed out her long black hair and, instead of her regular hair tie, put in the silver headband made from the same material as her belt. For the finishing touch, she took off her worn shoes and put on silver slippers.
"Do you want a mirror? I'm sure you'd like to see how pretty you are. I have make-up if you want it, but you'll never need it." Sandra had walked up behind Girl.
Girl quickly spun around into a fighting position at the sound of Sandra's voice. "You scared me! Sure, I'd like a mirror. No make-up though."
Sandra got Girl a mirror about the size of her head. "We have a really big one in the dressing hall where we get the kids ready to go to town. I don't know if you want to go in there; you'll be showered with questions."
"Not to mention how all the boys we're taking would act! They'd be next to you in two seconds flat!" Alicia had heard Sandra's last sentence, and joined them.
"Actually, I would like to go to the city today. I think I'd enjoy the time." A thought suddenly and unexpectedly hit Girl. "Hey! You went to school!"
The two girls grinned. "Yep. We're still going, but we get our work for two weeks and do it here. Then we go in for a day and do it again. It's really fun!" Alicia answered.
"Okay let's get to that room, I need something to do!" Girl went to walk out of the room and stopped as Scott came in with an old restaurant tray.
"You didn't come for breakfast so I brought you some. Next time you won't get any, so watch out!" His smile and her scowl always seemed to appear at the same time, and they went perfectly together. It had always been that way.
"Thanks, but I can take care of myself. Leave it by my bed."
"But I've come to make sure you eat. I've walked tunnels just to bring this to you!" Scott was putting on his charm, and for once Girl stood firm.
"Too bad. I'm leaving." Girl stalked out of the room, her tail twitching like an offended cat.
Scott looked pleadingly at the two remaining girls. "Find out what her problem is. I need to know her story about the nightmare from last night."
Sandra and Alicia nodded their heads and followed Girl's path out the door.
Things underground went on that day like Girl was used to. She spent her whole day in the city helping kids and when she came back that night she thought. She thought about everything Piccolo had told her and about everything she had done.
Can things ever be normal again? Will I be able to look at Piccolo without remembering all of this? What about Goku? What will he think of me? How will he react if he finds out Piccolo took me? What am I going to do if he doesn't like me, or I don't like him? What do I do about Chichi?
Questions raced through Girl's mind as she tossed and turned on her pile of rags. She turned towards the doorway just in time to see Scott walk in. He hadn't quite looked at her so she closed her eyes and pretended to be asleep.
Scott walked to Girl's pile of rags and sat next to them. "Her face looks so peaceful! I don't think I've ever seen her awake with as soft an expression," he said to himself. "She's only ten, and yet, she's no child. I know I should be considered a child too, but I'm not one either. I don't feel sorry about it, but her loss seems to have been very early in her life. For that I could almost cry." He reached to Girl's face and brushed a strand of hair away from it. As Girl pretended to turn in her sleep, Scott backed up to the entrance of the room and left.

***

As time went on, Girl became restless. Things underground were going smoothly, but she felt she was needed at home. Home? Do I have a home anymore? Did I ever have a home? These thoughts came to her everyday when she helped each orphan find a place to live.
One day as Girl was ending a day's work; she decided to say 'hi' to Mole, her friend that 'guarded' the hill entrance. As she followed the twists and turns in the tunnels, Girl caught the sound of voices ahead of her.
"I think sh'll be rioght surprised t' see ye'."
"She'll be angry and won't come."
"Why ye' say tha'?"
"I'm not telling."
"'ave it yer way."
It's Gohan! Maybe Goku's back! Girl rushed to meet Gohan and Mole in the in the next tunnel.
Seeing his sister rush towards him, made Gohan's heart leap. Girl was prettier than he remembered  especially in her, apparently new, blue-and-silver dress. She was perfect, so strong, so beautiful  and was so his sister. Gohan sighed and waited for Girl to come to him.
"So what's up? Has Goku come? Where is he?" Girl's habit of tail twitching showed as she flicked it around with the force of a whip  she was very nervous.
Gohan sighed. "No. I came to tell you about him, though."
Girl's tail stopped mid-twitch and relaxed a little, wrapping itself around her waist like a second belt. "Shoot."
"Well, we used the Namek Dragon Balls to wish Krillan and Dad to the station in the other dimension "
"But that means that Goku died!"
"Yeah, that's what we thought happened. I just didn't want to admit it. Anyway, when we asked the Dragon, he said Krillan was there but that if Dad went there he would die. So then we wished Krillan to life." Gohan paused to take a short breath.
"So? What happened? Come on! Tell me!" Girl snapped.
"Okay! Krillan came back and we had one wish left. We wished that Dad be brought to earth. The Dragon said that Dad said he didn't want to come home." Gohan said this last sentence with such ease that Girl knew he had said it to himself too many times.
"What!! He doesn't want to come home? Why not?" Girl was flabbergasted.
"II don't know!" Gohan flung his arms around Girl and buried his face into her dress. Muffled sobs were all but incoherent to his amazed sister.
Girl looked around and realized that Mole had conveniently disappeared during Gohan's explanation.  There wasn't a soul in sight. She patted her brother's back and waited 'til he had calmed to talk to him.
"Listen. He'll be back. I bet he wanted to get healed before he came back  I would hate to have Piccolo to see me all beat up. Maybe he feels the same about someone here." This had better convince him! Girl was trying her best to cheer her brother up.
"Well, maybe. Yeah! That's what it is! He doesn't want us to see him so beat up! Thanks." Gohan looked around. "I'm only supposed to be here for a little while. Mom only let me come because she wants you home. Will you come?" The pleading in Gohan's eyes pierced Girl's mind.
Can I handle this? What about meeting this Krillan guy? What about the orphans? What will they do? What about Scott? Can I forgive Piccolo? What about GohanAll these questions raced through her mind in an instant. In another instant she had answers. She knew that she wasn't mad at Piccolo  any other kidnapper would have abandoned her. She also knew that the orphans would manage just like they had before she had come. From the sound of him, Girl decided that she wanted to meet Krillan. Things were almost sorted out. She knew she could handle anything if she tried. What about Scott? The final question spun like a twister in her mind. Can I leave him? Of course I can! Do I want to? Not really. Will I ever see him again? If I do, then it won't matter if I leave. If I don't Girl didn't want to think of the possblity.
"Will you come, Girl?" Gohan's pleading eyes dug into Girl and somehow managed to reach her buried heart.
A sigh escaped her red lips as she replied, "I think I might." I'm sorry Scott. "You wait here while I get my stuff."
Gohan nodded and Girl turned to run back the way she had come. While turning a corner Girl ran head first into Scott and knocked him over. Both of them landed with a soft thump.
"Woah! Hey, Daisy, where you going in such a hurry?" Scott's eyes twinkled as he teased her. His grin grew larger when Girl scowled at the nickname she had received.
"I'm going back with Gohan." She stated as she pulled herself up. "He really wants me to stay with him. So does Chichi." Girl went on to tell him what had happened to her father.
Scott whistled in amazement. "I think you should go. Don't keep Gohan waiting and make sure you say 'bye' to Sandra and Alicia. I'll miss you, Daisy, but I know where to find you. Goodbye, Girl." Scott hugged Girl's slender but sturdy frame, then quickly let go and headed toward a small side tunnel.
"Goodbye, Scott." Girl said as the boy disappeared from sight. When she couldn't see him anymore she added, "I love you," in a soft whisper.
A faint echo of his reply touched her ears, "I know."
Then the tears fell from her eyes. I might not ever see him again, but Gohan needs me.

***

"So you're leaving us again. I knew it would happen, but I still don't want it to." Alicia had tears, glistening like stars, running down her cheeks.
"We'll miss you, Girl. Take care of yourself and visit us. Boss will be unbearable if you don't!" Sandra, too, had tears creating a stream on her face.
"You'll both be fine! The two of you have managed this place smoothly without me before, and you'll do it again. Boss had better be bearable while I'm gone or I'll come back and teach him how to do so." Girl tried her hardest not to join the ranks of crying girls. " I promise to visit you. Especially when I need a new dress." All the girls surrounding the three friends started to laugh and give Girl farewell hugs.
***
As Gohan and Girl walked along, they didn't talk much. The silence soon became unbearable to Girl and she decided to break it.
"You don't seem as willing to talk since the last time we met."
Gohan replied with a shrug. "There isn't much to tell you now. You know most everything."
Girl absently twirled her tail while she thought of a way to get her brother to speak. Then it registered  not for the first time  that Gohan didn't have a tail. "What happened to your tail? I know you had one; it's in your picture. Where is it?
"I lost it the last time when we were fighting Vegeta." The smile that came to his lips was rueful. "Both his and my tail caused problems, then."
Memory struck Girl like lightning. Vegeta said something like that! What is so horrible about a tail? Girl voiced her thoughts.
"You don't know? I thought you would've known by now." Gohan's tone said he was clearly surprised.
"Know what? Nobody's told me anything about tails except that they'll tell me later. Now don't even do the same things." All this secrecy agitated Girl to no end.
"Maybe you'd better sit. It's not far 'til we get home, but I'd rather do this without Mom."
Girl sat on a rock near the path, then, remembering she was in a dress, quickly crossed her legs like she had been taught. "I'm ready. Talk."
The story that came from her brother not only surprised Girl but amazed her as well: Piccolo working with others to fight Vegeta and Nappa, the great sacrifices made, including Piccolo's effort to save Gohan.
When Gohan paused Girl demanded to know more. "I know. I'm not done yet. Lemme' catch my breath." He then continued on. A while later he finished with Goku going to the hospital.
"I can't believe tails can do that. It's absolutely amazing." Another thought entered Girl's head and she blurted it out, "Now I know why I couldn't go outside."
"What?"
"At the party. I was hot from being in that stuffy yellow dress and no one let me outside. There was a full moon wasn't there?"
"Oh, that. Yeah, I'm not sure why no one told you then, but now you know." Gohan got up from the stump he had used for a seat as he spoke.
"Wait. I have another question. Why does Piccolo help you now? I know why he raised me, but how did you get to be on such good terms with him? I thought he hated Goku. He did before I left him, anyways."
After a moment's hesitation, Girl's brother answered. "That's a whole 'nother story." Gohan returned to the stump and told Girl about their Uncle Raditz.
"Is that all I need to know? Are there any other crazy, power hungry aliens I should know about?" The smile Girl showed was rare, full of honest happiness and content. Gohan didn't think he had ever seen his sister this happy.
He returned the smile and said, "Yeah, there is. There's one with long, black hair, beautiful eyes, a small nose, ruby red lips and tan skin. This alien looks like a beautiful girl, but she's dangerous. There's only one way you can tell she's an alien: she has a tail!"
"Oh you rude little boy! I'm not crazy or power hungry." Keeping a straight face became very hard to do, so Girl gave in and started to laugh, causing her to fall off her rock. Gohan found this just as funny as what either of them had said and joined his sister in her laughter.
A short time later they helped each other up, still gaining control of their mirth. "I haven't laughed so hard for a long time! You missed a piece  right there." Girl pointed to a clump of leaves stuck in Gohan's hair.
"Thanks. I think we'd better get Mom to help you get all that out. It's a complete mess. How do you keep it neat?  Oh no. Mom's gonna' kill me! Hurry, we have to get home. I shouldn't've taken so long." As Gohan spoke he grabbed his sister's arm and began to run.
"Goodness. You get excited quickly. Someday you'll be going to fast- "
For once, it was Girl that was interrupted. "Save your breath and run. We don't want Mom to throw a fit. Hurry!"
***
There was no punishment for being late  Chichi was just too emotional to do anything but get them to study, which was a punishment in itself. Every time Girl turned around Chichi was staring at her, as if she'd disappear right on the spot.
"What would you expect?" Gohan asked when she mentioned it later. "You've left so many times that she'll be watching you for forever!" He had a point, but sometimes staring eyes made Girl nervous.
Once, during a brief interval when Chichi wasn't watching, Girl convinced Gohan that they needed to work out more than just their brains.
"But-"
"But nothing! I'm sick of sitting here and doing math problems! I hate this! Let's go before Chichi comes back."
"Mom-" Gohan's protests were cut off as his sister pulled him out the window.
"Just for an hour. Then we'll come back. If we spend all the time studying when we get home, it'll be okay. I'm way behind on training."
When they came home an hour later Chichi was furious. "I can't believe you did that! Just think of how I felt; both my babies gone without a trace. How could you do this to me?"
"Mom," Gohan tried to reason to no avail.
"Don't you 'Mom' me! I've been worried sick wondering where you've been and all you can say is 'Mom'?!" At Chichi's words Gohan lowered his head in shame.
"Look, Chi- Mom. I pulled him out the window. He didn't want to. I made him do it. So lay off and yell at me. Not him." Girl found calling Chichi 'Mom' was still difficult, but she wondered if she'd ever be able to without thinking about it.
"I should have known! Why must you do such horrible thing? I lost you for so long, and now you're leaving me on purpose. There's not even a bad guy! Even if there were, I don't want you growing up as brainless brutes. I want you to be smart and-"
"We get the point. You don't want us to fight. How about a compromise? Since you know I'll still train when you don't want me to, how about 3 hours a for me and Gohan to train and the rest of the day for studying? It's that, or us gone when you least expect it." Girl's matter-of-fact way with Chichi made Gohan stare.
"Gohan and me. It's not me and Gohan, it's Gohan and me. I told you to practice your grammer. I won't have you wasting your time fighting. You'll be-"
"Gone before you know it. I won't have you keeping me form what I want to do." Girl began to turn away when Chichi grabbed her.
"Oh no you don't. I will not have you walk away. I'll give you one hour a day."
"Saturdays off and 2 hours a day." Girl's tail snapped. Whether in anger or delight Gohan couldn't tell.
A sigh escaped Chichi's lips. She wasn't dealing with Gohan or Goku; she was dealing with herself plus an extra bit of stubbornness. "Okay," she said reluctantly, "but I have to know where you're going. If you go further than I want, I'll know, believe me."
"Done."
Gohan watched in amazement as his mother and sister turned and walked away, completely content with the bargain. It was if the fight had ever been. He shook his head to clearit. There had never been someone who could strike a deal with his mom, never.

***
Things after that calmed down pretty well. Chichi let her children train (although grudgingly) and they studied (somewhat) willingly. Saturdays were mostly devoted to training, but every so often Girl and Gohan would go swimming, or fly around with Icarus.
One day, while swimming, a short man in a white suit was sitting on a rock near the shore. Girl had seen the car drive up, but Gohan hadn't. She didn't bother to say anything (why should she?) but soon heard Gohan making quite a fuss. "Wow! It's Krillan! C'mon Girl. Let's say hi."
"That's okay, I'll stay here." Girl dived under water and tried to swim away.
"I don't think so." Gohan said as he grabbed his sister's foot and hauled her up. "You have to meet him. He's Dad's best friend and mine. You have to meet him."
Girl's grimace showed her reluctance to meet people hadn't disappeared like some other habits. "Oh, alright. But only because he's your best friend."
Gohan smiled. "Thanks."
Brother and sister swam to the shore to greet what Girl mentally called a Suit. Suit's were what kids underground called men who dressed up in fancy suits and spent lots of money. From the looks of that car, and the suit he wore, this guy definitely fit into the category. This is his brave friend that went to Namek? I doubt this Suit could fight. He probably just looks like Gohan's friend
"Hey, Krillan! What's up? You wanna' go for a swim?" Gohan was talking to the Suit, and right when Girl thought to leave, he turned to introduce her. "I want you to meet someone, Krillan. Girl, come here." Shyly, Girl obeyed, her tail twitching like a fish's. Seeing this, Gohan scowled. "Don't do that. I know what you're thinking. You can't leave yet."
"So what's up, Bro? Who's the girl?" asked the Suit, nudging Gohan in the arm.
The Suit sure doesn't talk like one, Girl thought. And that second question was definitely implying that-
"She's Girl, my sister. Until Raditz came she trained with Piccolo."
"WHAT? Your sister! Goku has two kids? Whoa!" The Suit looked at Girl, disbelief mirrored in his eyes. "She does look like Chichi, but," the Suit paused for another moment to inspect Girl. The water reached her waist (she was a bit further out than Gohan was) and her black silky hair was tied into a bun behind her head. Her green swimsuit fit well around her perfectly formed body, and her tail twitched  The Suit did a double take. "Wow! You are Goku's kid. You've got a tail."
"Great deduction, Sherlock," Girl muttered.
"Aww, Girl, say hello. He doesn't bite," begged Gohan.
Girl retorted, "But I might."
"Well, hi Girl. Nice to meet ya'; I'm Krillan." The Suit, Krillan, held out his hand and, under Gohan's watchful eye, Girl received it, her smile genuinely false. "Hmmm, you were trained by Piccolo?" In Gohan's ear he added, "That would explain the attitude. Does she talk much?"
Sighing  Girl seemed to have that effect on people  Gohan shook his head. Not to answer Krillan's question, but to express his disappointment in both parties. "I should've known. Krillan, you want to swim with us?" The tactic of changing subjects seemed to work well.
Girl stopped paying attention to her brother's conversation and turned to swim into the water. She shook her head and her hair tie snapped. All of her thick hair fell into her face and she tripped over her own feet. Gasping in surprise, Girl pulled water into her lungs.
A pair of hands dragged Girl above water and over a rock where she heaved the liquid out. "Are you all right, Girl? What happened?" Gohan had retrieved his sister from the water not expecting any thanks. Apparently his expectations were too high.
"I'm fine," Girl quickly up righted herself and rudely pushed her brother away. When he approached again she put some force behind her shove, then swam into the deeper water and behind some rocks.
"Yeah, I believe it now Gohan. Her looks are Chichi's and her attitude is clearly Piccolo's, but other than the tail I don't see much of Goku. Is she like that all the time? For your sake, let's hope not."
Girl didn't wait to hear Gohan's answer. Her pride was hurt bad enough, but she couldn't bear to hear what her brother had to say about her. Silently, Girl swam to the opposite shore and walked home.

***

A short while later found her sitting on her bed reading. This was one thing she was glad she'd learned in school. There were so many different stories of adventure, mystery and all sorts of things. At the moment, she was reading about Knights of the Round Table.
The door sounded with a soft tap. "What do you want?" Girl asked.
"I wanna' talk to you about the party." It was Gohan.
"Come in then."
Gohan obeyed and told Girl first of the party, and then of his talk with Krillan and meeting with Maren. "If Dad were here, he'd be so happy. Krillan with a girlfriend, who'd 'a thought?"
"No clue, but the party sounds good. Let's go. It'd be a good break." Girl shut her book and stretched.
"We have to ask Mom, remember?" Gohan always followed the rules.
"Fine. You ask her. I'll be reading." Girl returned to her book and Gohan left the room.
When her brother came back with the order to study, Girl was more than angry. "We had a deal! Saturdays off!"
"But she never said we could go anywhere," pointed out Gohan.
"Arrrggh! You just have to say that! I hate this." While speaking, Girl grabbed her book bagt and pulled a history book out. She slammed it onto her desk and started working. The only sign that showed she was still angry was her madly twitching tail.
Gohan retreated to his room to work on his own studies, and found Ickarus at his window. He jumped on his friends back and went to Girl's window. When his sister was on, they took off toward Kame House.
